New CUSA TV Contract Will Be "Significantly" Less!

Our AD was speaking to a local Hattiesburg group last week at lunch. He said that the new TV contract will be "significantly" less that the current one at $200K per year to each team.

Didn't we just go through this?

How low can this number possibly go? We're talking about 12 (?) colleges with thousands of students and alumni that are going to the trouble of fielding football teams. At what point is it not even worth it anymore?

I don't think that $200,000 goes very far anyway. It's just the concept.

Will it be enough to cover Sonya Varnell's salary.

Hope so. Her infectious grin and roaring torch have warmed the heart of many a Golden Eagle better than myself.

Less than $200k?  So CUSA will officially be the worse conference among the D1.  Walking away from ESPN years ago is showing the intelligence of many. Now have zero value

In other words, no contract at all.

I hate how every California nose-picker with a website or app wants to do video now. You never know if you'll end up watching the game on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram... fucking Reddit probably, eventually.  Can't anyone stay in their own fucking lane anymore?

I have no urge to turn this site into a TV channel, because I'm not a moron.

$79.95 a team and you got CUSA. Go for it!

Exactly. Even at a school with a tight budget like ours, 200k isn't all that much. We're getting like 15x that number from Alabama and MSU in 2019. 9x from just Auburn next year.

Get some deal going with ESPN3 (or some other streaming service halfway worth a damn) and have them broadcast every CUSA football/basketball/baseball game. The payout to each school would be however much it costs to produce these games.

No, and at 200K it wasn't enough to cover Dilbert's. There will be an even bigger squeeze on the few donors left to cover the shortfall under the guises of Eagle Club and whatever shell game they can concoct to maintain D1 athletic salaries. All while putting out DII level teams on and in NAIA level facilities. Hurry up and give to the imaginary Bower Center that never happened folks ... We need yo munneeez now !!!

Re: New CUSA TV Contract Will Be "Significantly" Less!

I feel like we'd get a lot more than $200,000 if we negotiated our own TV deal. Get us on WHLT, WXXV, and maybe one or two more channels.  Doesn't need to be fancy. Just pipe Cox / Roberts over a two or three camera video feed. I don't know if we're allowed to do this, but it'd probably work a lot better than packaging ourselves with every damned corner-of-the-state university on the planet.

We will end up paying to be on TV......  Or, you will pay a lot to watch.  One or the other.  Days of watching for free is going to end very soon.
