Major new partnership for CSNBBS

In case you don't regret leaving CSNBBS yet, maybe this will give you pause: in light of the hatred and insensitivity seen on the board recently, I've made a concerted effort to reach out to the sort of marginalized groups that you all mock, and ally the site with them. Our common cause is ending ignorance, bullying, trolling, and bigotry on loosely-moderated Internet forums. From this outreach has come a major new marketing partnership, which seems destined not only to enrich me personally, but to expose site members to exciting new opportunities. The image below should give you a more concrete idea of where I'm headed with this.

Yeah, that was pointed out and then the original poster got really quiet.

Oh shit....I must have a 60s era Big Block V8 problem then!  YouTube vids of muscle cars and auto parts keep popping up.   cool

I've always been partial to the 455 Olds myself.

Re: Major new partnership for CSNBBS

Best friend had a '65 442 with a Olds 400 big block and a 2 speed "variable-pitch" tranny that was a bad MFer our senior year of HS.  That 455 was a strong motor prior to being detuned like all the others.

That era 442 is among my favorites. Love that transmission, and I love the styling of that era. It was all so simple and clean.

I've never owned a big block, but I did drive a '77 Cutlass S with a (real Olds) 350 for a while. She wasn't a hot rod, just a warmed-up daily driver: Holley double-pumper, "test pipe" instead of a cat, Trans-Go shift kit, "G-series" wheels / tires that rubbed if you turned the steering wheel all the way, BB in the EGR tube lol. Pretty fun for a smog era car. She'd catch second gear at least, which is really something for a near-stock '77 with fat tires. Rust was her nemesis.

Re: Major new partnership for CSNBBS

I hear ya...was able to drive the 442 a good bit and that fucker would run.  You could stomp it at 30 and it would straight burn the tires and ease sideways from the Limited Slip rearend.  My older brother had a 73 Cougar with a 351 Cleveland that was pretty stout for a smog car.

I still have the 04 Stang GT in the corral along with a Stroked 4.6 Jeep Wrangler that I built.  I have headers & cams for the Stang in the garage for the past year or more that I need to install rather than reading this shit!  Back in June I picked up a '17 F150 with the 2nd gen 3.5 twin-turbo Ecoboost with the 10 speed auto.  It is fast for a 5500 pound lwb super crew pick-up and gets better mileage than both the Jeep and the Stang.  Hahaha

You've got an '04 Mustang GT? Man, I bought an '01 Mustang GT brand new and she ran 13.99 in the quarter mile, bone stock. She also hit 150mph+ (according to Ford at least) one night on a long stretch of I-65. Seriously, seriously underrated car. People were bitching on the Internet about them being slow, doing stupid mods like dropping in a T-56 (one more shift in the quarter? no thanks!), etc., and all I did was learn how to frickin' drive. Don't trust the Internet for advice, people.

Yah, got it new. 70mm Accufab T/B and Plenum, programmed, BBK CAI, MAC Pro-chamber with Magnaflows, 3.73 gears...really needs the headers/cams. It's sitting on 315/35s out back and 275/40s up front with an Eibach Pro Street suspension. Prolly some other shit I can't remember after all these years!

Re: Major new partnership for CSNBBS

The fuckin 98 Jeep is actually more impressive tho.  I built the shit out of it.  Cranks out more power than the Stang at present but its all down low.  I kept the compression at 9.0:1 to limit detonation and it worked very well as I can run on regular unleaded with zero pinging.  It's cammed and has a choppy ass lope with it's .500 lift.  cool I even put 1.65:1 ratio Harland Sharp roller rockers in that sumbitch!!  Ported/polished head, port-matched intake, 63mm throttle body, header, bored out .030 and stroked with 258 crank/rods.

Is it based on the 4.6L "Modular?" Love that motor, man, and I love a hot cam. (And hate detonation, preignition, pinging... whatever you want to call it LOL.)

Re: Major new partnership for CSNBBS

Nah, its the Jeep 4.0 Inline Six block overbored .030 and then Stroked by using the 258 crank and rods.  The "30 over" only increases displacement to 4.1 but the added stroke gives it another .5 litre resulting in 4.6L.  If you bore it .060 it becomes a 4.7L and so on.  It's like a hot rod tractor motor on steroids!!

Got you. That straight six is a solid motor. Didn't know you could stroke/bore it out that much... wow. Imagine that gives you quite the slap on the back when you floor it.

Re: Major new partnership for CSNBBS

No, it's built to pull/crawl.  About the sexiest thing I've done is yank stumps out of the ground and shock the shit out of people during Cruisin the Coast but doing "hole shots" and roasting the 33X12.50s.  With 4.10 gears and lockers, it really launches well.  For 60 feet it will beat all sorts of shit but then falls on it's face for all the gearing and weight.

It'll jerk your neck out of socket...LOL

I say its not fast but the only Jeeps that I don't blow away in traffic have 350 Chevys in them.  All the others are left wondering why mine is fast and there's is NOT.

Fast rear differential ratios are a source of joy to me. Had my Cutlass S not turned into rust, I would have gotten rid of that inexcusable 2.73 rear end before I did anything else.
