Giannini Bowl

Just hit me. Yesterday's game was the Giannini bowl. They're in the Sun Belt 2.0 because of his... vision. We're in the original Sun Belt because of his, um, leadership. The 6,000 ULM fans and 5,000 USM fans who attended that spectacle can thank RG for it.

No, I knew it all, but I hadn't considered all of it at once. I hadn't come up with the moniker "Giannini Bowl," which is what all ULM-USM matchups will be.

Re: Giannini Bowl

Actually, this is the Giannini Bowl. Was informed last night that the team got passports before the season started. So this could happen.

Richard Giannini, a veteran of five decades of athletic administration who has been involved with the startup of three current bowl games, is the Executive Director of the Bahamas Bowl.

In his role with the Bahamas Bowl, Giannini oversees the bowl’s operations and staff, is the bowl’s liaison with ESPN Events and serves in a key role with the bowl’s governmental relations with the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

As principal of Giannini Sports Consultants, LLC, he advises Conference USA, ESPN and the Boca Raton Bowl in addition to his work with the Bahamas Bowl.

Re: Giannini Bowl

Not sure I've ever told this story here before. Back when I was in HS, I worked at the Hattiesburg Dixie Youth park doing the scorebook/scoreboard. However, for t-ball games, they made me go on the field and put the ball on the tee because no score was kept. Well, Giannini's grandson was playing in this game and I saw him in the stands. He eventually made his way ON TO THE FIELD and was taking pictures. I've never seen anyone do that before. Not only was he on the field, but at one point he was damn near in the basepath snapping pics. Almost had to tell him to back the fuck up and then later lash out him for killing our athletic programs and university.

Pure gold. Posts like this are the reason why I wake up at 5:00 AM to dump out the bit bucket.

Re: Giannini Bowl

Looking back, it was one of the funnier things that has happened to me.

As for the Bahamas Bowl, I don't how likely it is that we go there. Like I said, someone told me at a watch party that they had bought the team passports. What other reason would there to be to get passports?

There was a lot of debate about which bowl to choose in 2015, since it was our first trip in a while. McGillis wanted NOLA, because that was our best chance at bringing lots of fans. Monken wanted the bowl with the best possible opponent. However, Bennett made clear that Bahamas was NEVER an option. Not sure what would be different this time around to make him change his mind.
