I love shit like that. Next purchase will probably be something in .22 Winchester Magnum, or even .17 HMR. A Ruger Single Nine would be nice, or maybe this: http://www.heritagemfg.com/product_deta … prod_id=20.

Yup, all I've got right now is the AK and an FNX-9. The basics.

Penetration is important too, though. When they arrive to escort us to the camps, they'll probably be wearing body armor. That's the appeal of shit like .22 WMR, .17 HMR, and, if you're rich, FN 5.7.

There are some very lightweight, pointy 9mm rounds out there nowadays that can help with that though (http://www.drtammo.com/DRT-Store/Produc … ound-Boxes).  The pistol magazine I keep loaded starts with three hollow point rounds, followed by 14 of those 85gr FMJ rounds. If the first three rounds bounce off the armor, the rest probably won't.

9 may be all you need but I still prefer my FNX-45 Tactical...16 rounds of .45 that fits in nearly any hand.  And those raised Tritiums sitting above that threaded barrel... cool

Re: F*ck the NFL

Penetration can be had cheaper than the 5.7 in the .22 TCM but like many of the rifle rounds Beers mentioned, they're only economical if you load them yourself.

The gov't ain't who I'm worried about, its the roving bands of "zombies".  They won't have body armor. What they already have is no conscience and are night prowlers. Night vision and silencers one-up that shit every time!

I love tritium sights but the fact that they decay over time isn't good- hence the appeal of shit like the Williams fiber optic sights on the Ruger Single Nine.

Ideal handgun for me would have a super long barrel, be chambered for .22 WMR, be semi-auto, and have fiber optic sights. The Kel-Tec PMR30 checks all the boxes, but is a notorious piece of shit.

Dude, those DRTs are "frangible" meaning they pulverize upon impact.  They are basically the opposite of armor piercing.  They are LEO training rounds. Junk for defense purposes.  Don't be fooled by the speed.

Had forgotten about that one if I ever knew about it, but bottlenecked cartridges are awesome in my book. One more thing to think about.

The 1st gen was a POS.  The 2nd gen functions well.

I was impressed by the DRT FMJ's performance against ballistic gelatin, but now I'm wondering if they would just fall apart when shot into anything harder. Thanks for the advice.

Re: F*ck the NFL

The .22 Tauson Craig Micromagnum is merely a cut-down .223.  Yet it still has good pressures and will propel a 40grn 22 JHP at speeds of over 2000 fps from a 5" 1911 platform for under $700 with a 9 mm barrel to swap in if you like.  Same mag since the OAL of the cartridges are nearly identical.

Re: F*ck the NFL

Look up frangible ammo and you'll find it does exactly that.

It franges LOL?

Frangible ammo vs. armor is quite possibly one of those urban myths. There was one cop waaay back in 2002 who claimed that he'd seen a frangible bullet penetrate body armor. And then, years later, the DRT FMJ did well against ballistic gelatin in some third party tests. As far as frangible ammo goes, DRT seems to be the best.

Ballistic gelatin isn't armor, so maybe DRT FMJ would just fall apart if you shot it at armor. I wouldn't want to be the test subject for it, though.

Or maybe not... just found this: http://gear-report.com/9mm-ammunition-b … ment-block.

"The baby round of the bunch, the Dynamic Research Technologies- DRT Ammunition 85gr HP frangible sped in and out of the cement block, leaving the smallest entry and exit holes, but reliably got the job done every time.

I would be comfortable carrying any of these 3 rounds when barrier penetration is a consideration and a pistol round is required."

And this isn't even the FMJ version. I'd imagine the FMJ version penetrates even better. You can argue about the "stopping power" of an 85gr 9mm round, but its ability to punch holes in hard targets is impressive.

Punch holes anywhere in the groin area and it don't matter what caliber it is. Finish em off when their on the ground. Special forces info.

Are you talking about the PMR-30? If the 2nd generation really feeds reliably, then I want one badly. It's an absolutely awesome gun on paper: 30 round capacity, fast little .22 WMR round, fiber optic sights... it's pretty much the ultimate handgun, if you set aside the FN 5.7. But then you read the reviews and field reports... ugh.

Re: F*ck the NFL

I'm really surprised that the dude testing all that ammo chose what he chose.  Why would he use the 147 grn HST when LE uses 124/135 grn much more readily.  He even references the fact after the testing that the 147 is a subsonic round...duh.  While barely subsonic as he states, it's much slower than an 85 grn projectile.  And speed kills man.

Yes, the PMR is what I was talking about with a 2nd generation.  As usual with Kel Tec, their production is sporadic which creates their own demand.  Right now they are relatively scarce but 2 months ago, they were everywhere.  FNs are usually very scarce but I know where there are 3 sitting on the shelf and more are available.

might as well go suck some ng schmekel while your at it.....

Nah, I'm watching Family Guy. And it turns out whoever said no one knelt was wrong. Jerry Jones apparently knelt with the team (http://www.nola.com/national_politics/2 … river_home). Guess it was covered up by the media, who are no doubt in panic mode. New respect... gone.

And "schmekel" LOL. Haven't heard that one from anyone but Mike Savage. You're in good company.

Need to correct my correction. Jones and the team knelt *before* the anthem then stood *during* it. Seems like a good approach- acknowledge the cause but modify the approach.
