Re: Five-year draft history

We are not recruiting at the level we were prior to Eloss-12.
Lots of reasons for that, but true.

Re: Five-year draft history

Where did we fall on this list when times were good.....upper 40's? Monken did well considering all factors. Hopson will focus on defense and get our reputation back to keep us in games, grabbing potential talent like the Dandy Dozen kid out of Florida. La Tech is leading CUSA on this list and we have done well against them during our rough patch. WKU will be interesting to watch with the change in staff. Surprised to see UTSA so far down on this list.

I took a look and I was surprised how many players used to get drafted. Here's a 20-year history:

1998: 2nd, 5th, 6th, and 6th round picks (4 picks)
1999: none (0)
2000: 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 6th (4)
2001: 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th (4)
2002: 6th and 7th (2)
2003: 6th (1)
2004: 5th, 6th, and 6th (3)
2005: 5th and 7th (2)
2006: none (0)
2007: none (0)
2008: 6th (1)
2009: 4th and 4th (2)
2010: none (0)
2011: none (0)
2012: 3rd (1)
2013: 2nd (1)
2014: 3rd (1)
2015: 6th (1)
2016: 6th and 7th (2)
2017: none (0)

So, the twenty year trend is 4,0,4,4,2,1,3,2,0,0,1,2,0,0,1,1,1,1,2,0

A few things stand out. Bower's recruiting deteriorated pretty badly during the pizza bowl era. Fedora didn't send much talent to the NFL. His system is pretty different from the systems that were being run in the NFL back then, I think. The Ellis Johnson era was actually a relative high point, talent-wise. We had high-round picks in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Re: Five-year draft history

always wonder whether the late Bower-era dropoff was due to a lack of effort by the staff, or changing circumstances. probbly some of both.
