So, neither Coach Hall nor Athletic Director McClain knew the contract and this was an "honest mistake"? BULLSHIT!
I propose that this is a CRIME, they thought they could get away with it, and it technically constitutes grounds for immediate dismissal of both.
Perhaps failure to pursue it as such is an additional crime, at another level.
I absolutely believe it could be a mistake after seeing how incompetent Southern Miss handled the E12Loss contract and buyout.
No one admitted to hiring him. No one admitted to reviewing his contract before it was signed. It was a trainwreck dumpster fire from day one. He got the last 3 years of his contract guaranteed..... shm... TTT

Old news but Austin Armstrong DC going to Bama.....thoughts? I thought he did a decent job. He was aggressive. Lots of blitzes but because of that we gave up some big plays occasionally.

I am trying to remember the details of that. I remember calling it a "no USM clause" and recall that it was something like the SEC having veto power over any Liberty Bowl opponent from a state with an SEC school or something. At least, that's what was said on Germy's board. Googling it now the only thing I see is something about how the SEC could exercise a veto every other year.
Don't believe any of it. I doubt Banowsky had much from the Liberty Bowl other than hollow promises. CUSA was and is an absolute clown show.
While I thought it was good to have the CUSA champ have a tie-in to the Liberty bowl, having the CUSA champ play a 7-5 or 6-6 SEC team was a bad deal. And the SEC veto thingy was just yet another weak leadership by CUSA.
I worked with a guy that was in the Athletic Dept at a CUSA school 2-3 years ago. He said the Monday morning CUSA conference calls were a joke. Either Judy or whoever the Assistant commissioner of the day on the calls were clueless. I can only imagine.

There are definitely people who claim an invitation was turned down during the Gen. Hammond era. The conventional wisdom seems to be what was posted already about Aresco (who's still commissioner of the AAC, for whatever that's worth). I tend to think there's truth on both ends- there was probably never a formal invitation, but there were conversations that quickly revealed a mutual lack of interest.
Whatever the case may be, I feel like moving to the SBC has given USM athletics more energy and attention. USM needed to get out of CUSA at any cost and I am glad those with some control over the matter finally admitted this. I was ambivalent about CUSA in 1995, then warmed up to it over the years, but once other teams started leaving it became downright insulting to USM fans to remain.
I agree we needed to get out of CUSA at any cost which is why I find it hard to believe we would turn down an AAC offer.
CUSA was a disaster at every level. We won the conference one year but somehow didn't go the the Liberty bowl that supposedly had a bowl tie-in with CUSA. When they split into east as west divisions, we stopped playing Tulane. We had played them for something like 30 years in a row at the time. One of our CUSA 'co-championships' was with Houston. Houston went to the Liberty bowl, we went home for the holidays. Judy claimed CUSA was a 'regional' conference with teams in El Paso and Miami FL...smh

Aresco was real big on TV markets and we simply had no market to offer. I don't think we were ever invited. I doubt we would have been stupid enough to turn it down. ( but we did hire E12loss Johnson so anything is possible)
Either way we went to the Lending tree bowl and played a 5-7 Rice on Dec 17th. Tulane went to the Cotton Bowl and played USC on Jan 2nd.

It's done! USM is outta CUSA effective June 30, 2022. I will attach the link from USM once I figure it out on this Mac.

"Demands of recruiting" is much more likely than some weird Rickey Bustle scenario. There's probably some more specific precipitating factor we won't hear about.
I would love to hear your thoughts on a bustle scenario as there are multiple rumors

Probably nothing to do with the Auburn coach and everything to do with the demands of recruiting. You can go ahead and close that unwritten chapter on being a coach at USM as well……..
On the Auburn message boards they are saying the same thing about demands of recruiting but I can't believe he would take
that job without realizing that?
I get that it is alot different now than when he played 10 years ago with NIL, transfer portal, etc. but it just doesn't sound right.
This may have more to do with Harsin than anything else. OC Bobo, WR coach Cornelius Williams fired last year.
DC Mason leaves for DC role at Ok St. ? Now Davis leaves to 'spend more time with family'......

Jalen Richard is such a great player. Tracey Lampley would have done similar things, had fate turned out better.
I remember one press conference E12loss called him Jalen Rose....dumbass didn't even know his name. He also said he needed to figure out how to get Lampley more touches....smh

Impressive what prime time has done in just over one year. JSU crowds exceed Ole Miss, MSU and even the Egg Bowl. He will not be at JSU next fall. Not sure where he goes but he and his son will leave shortly for the next opportunity. Could be GA Tech.
The radio in Atlanta stated today that the celebration bowl, Jackson State vs South Carolina state is a sellout ( 71,000 )
I get there are corp sponsors that buy tickets but can that be true?.... 71,000 ?

Portal to fill the rest of the open spots over the next 3-4 weeks following the bowl games. New OC arguably had a terrible season at Liberty as the OL coach this year but he and Will are friends so that’s what’s really important.
IMO, biggest news today was our next head ball coach getting hired at Auburn as OC. It will be one and done for him unfortunately because Harsin will be pushed out next year but it’s good experience for when Austin takes over at Southern Miss in 2024.
What was the connection between Harsin and Austin Davis?

Best recruiting class since Red Bull…….and he had some really good classes. He signs Myles the Tiger he automatically has the preseason CUSA or Belt first team QB……

so ~21 signed?... mix of juco, portal and high school.... it was once said he could sign ~32 somehow...is he going to focus on the portal the rest of the silly season?

Seems like we lost to loserville in 80 during a rainstorm something like 6-3.... we always seemed to lose bad weather games.
