New mobile site theme

There is a new site theme available called "Mobile." It uses bigger fonts, more spacing, etc. in an effort to make the site more mobile-device-friendly. Because of pressure from Google, this will be the theme used for people who are not logged in, and will be the default for new users.

Most of you liked the previous default theme, "Sulfur," even on mobile. You're still assigned that theme, or whatever theme you've been using. You can try out "Mobile" by going to "Profile" and then "Display" and then selecting it from the drop-down. You do have to press the "Submit" button to make the change stick.

If you're a lurker and you don't like "Mobile," then you'll need to register and go back to "Sulfur." Let me know if you need any help with that.

Thanks, man. I don't see the theme you use very often, so if there are issues, let me know.

Re: New mobile site theme

Now, if you figure out way not to have to change it back and forth, that would be most good!    When i change it on my iphone, it also changes my ipad and desktop.

I noticed this as well.

However, most of my visits are on mobile.

If you choose the "Mobile" theme, it will reduce font size to more desktop-friendly levels when a desktop device is detected. It's not quite as good as enabling different themes for each of your devices, but it's somewhat similar to that.

Well, most stuff is larger and more mobile-friendly when using "Mobile" regardless of device. For example, links are larger and more spaced out, even on desktop.

What does get smaller on desktop when using the "Mobile" theme is the text of the posts themselves. It's not obvious, but if this isn't working you'll see truly huge text in the post bodies- much larger than what you were getting under "Sulfur." (If you think you're experiencing this, let me know. A picture of the problem helps.)

Over time I can make the Mobile theme more adaptive. Right now it's a (mostly) one size fits all approach designed to get Google off my back.
