Stupid idea I had that's already basically been posted as a joke

With humanity having mostly evacuated M.M. Roberts, you can really see how dingy the concrete under the bleacher seating looks. It's ugly. We didn't notice it when there were people to hide it, but I damn sure do notice it now and it looks like shit.

So here's my idea: paint that shit black. It's going to mildew if it's cleaned (and it's not like anyone in our sorry-ass athletic department is working on that anyway). Seems like the obvious thing to do.

Ugh, I knew we were headed there. I say use the second cheapest paint you can find and see how it holds up. Gilbert isn't on top of this, or parking, because it doesn't make for a good bullet point on his resume. But the stadium looks like shit and paint is not expensive. Hell, we have a world-class bunch of paint experts right across campus.

I can't begin to describe that 'what the fuck are they not doing' regarding that.....

I see it every day as I drive by......it applies both to the interior and exterior....

other than the mausoleums, it's next on the pet peeve list....

I've pined about my disdain over the years about this one......

it's shitty and fucked the fuck up......there's zero excuse for that bullshit!!!

was thinking the exact same thingy.....unfortunately, any topical application is not a long term practical solution....

how about dropping a shiteload of bleach from the top, let gravity take over, and have a shiteload of pressure washing wands work it down to the field....

the exterior is an entire other animal.....

I believe they have a clear coat alternative that prevents mold and mildew on concrete now. shit man, we supposedly have one of the top polymer science depts in the country. get your asses in the lab and invent some shit.

w/o looking it up coupled with any surface agent, prepping the surface has to be a first pass or the agent will fail....

you can't paint over mildew or apply any other agent....she don't stick....

however, if there is an all-in-one (removal/coat) available, I'm all ears....

I doubt that one exists....

There's stuff that works with minimal prep. You really can paint POR-15 right over rust. I used it on some rust in the trunk of my car, like, 6 years ago and it's held up perfectly. That's a different ball game from a concrete stadium, I know.

that's correct......metal vs. concrete.....the substrate is kind of a big deal....

I dealt with material standards in a custom mfg facility for 20+ yrs.....

I didn't think painting a few thousand square feet of concrete was a particularly grandiose idea. It's more like standard maintenance that should be anticipated and expected, like changing the oil in your car. If you think you're too poor to change your motor oil, then you will likely end up a whole lot poorer in the long run. I think we're experiencing some of that kind of thing right now.

we are barely hanging on by a thread financially with this program. the washing of the stadium and fixing the speaker system would be a priority for any University before the start of the season. we decided to table those projects this year. kind of like not having the money to fix your air conditioning in your home so you buy a window unit for 89 bucks at Lowes just to cool your bedroom and maybe the living area. except we don't even have the 89 dollars.  the high end donor base is in a downward death spin and I do not see an end to it. we may be in for some very bad news in a couple of years. I hope not but I really don't see any way around it.
