Hattiesburg American on Coach Hopson's thoughts on 2017 bowl season

"We'll sit back, evaluate and see what's going on," Hopson said. "I think that's a big thing. See where you're going, when you've got to play and all that kind of stuff. I don't care. We'll talk about that later. We're just glad to be going somewhere."

Re: Hattiesburg American on Coach Hopson's thoughts on 2017 bowl season

From the same article:

"So, who would oppose the Golden Eagles if they wind up in the Independence Bowl? Well, it can be narrowed down to the ACC — that much we know. It can also be whittled down to those ACC teams closer to the 6-win mark. Florida State has five wins, but would finish with six with a win over Louisiana-Monroe next week. Duke became bowl eligible Saturday with a 31-23 win over Wake Forest.

Outside of those two teams, the only other legitimate options are Boston College and Wake Forest. But Florida State and Duke make more sense."

Exciting at the thought of playing in an historical bowl like the Indepedance against a quality team. Much better than other bows with CUSA agreements. My opinion of course.

That's a good point. And I'm willing to give the coaches a little credit for the end result, even if I'm disappointed about the way we arrived here.

Agreed. If I, or anyone, had commented in August this team would finish regular season with a 8-4 record many would  have run me off. Disappointed in our home record but overall and considering preseason concerns this team and coaching staff have done well

Suppose is comes down to opinion doesn’t it. For me, I’d rather play 6-6 Duke versus any record from the Belt or MAC

when KH was named the starter, I took KY jelly for 3 bills (and lost).....I had us winning 6 at the most with 4 being the actual number....

I have to also admit, I never jumped on the daddy ball wagon......however, if one doesn't see that KG is the better option, they need to have their head examined and pick up tennis as a Sat. activity....(even with all those overthrows yesterday)

IMO, it's obvious which one has a better grasp of the playbook.....

it's going to be interesting to see how that battle develops next year with the cuban missle vs KG........

if it was me.....I would look to move KH into the slot position.....target him for a few off-the-cuff designs and call it a day.....

'course, that wouldn't change those 'hand issues'.....hence, "a few"

Very logical and well thought out.

I can't believe I said that.

I actually did say that, and I asked if anyone could see this team winning 9 or 10 games. Of course, at that time, I thought we had settled on a quite serviceable QB.

Believe I predicted 8 in that thread.

that was easily the largest concern going in.....

it's why so many have mentioned, "daddy ball".....

it makes one wonder how Hop and Dawson get along (pure speculation.....but worth the investigation from the journo side)

as always, just my two pennies as a fan....

bottom line: 8-4 will always trump Elllllllllllloss.....toss in what Monk had to battle through in an attempt to regain some semblance of respectability, and this season easily surpassed most expectations....

it's a shame KG didn't start from the get go.....we have the tools in the shed.....

Re: Hattiesburg American on Coach Hopson's thoughts on 2017 bowl season

I don’t think Griggs or Rodriguez will be the guy next year. They’re going to bring in Jack Abraham from NWCC and he will be our QB.

haven't heard that one......

your sources are usually very reliable.....unfortunately, if true (aka as KH), I don't extend Hop's contract....

one would assume another year on their 'maturity' belt coupled with the challenges that all will face next year would dictate that outcome....

that would be my take....

Obviously Abraham, if he does ink with us shortly, will have an opportunity to compete with KG and Rodriguez.  May the best man win and may KH be shown a different meeting/film room!  Has he ever played any D??

Someone that casual fans have heard of. This includes P5 schools, the FBS service academies, Notre Dame, BYU, some of the AAC / MWC, and USM.
