Re: Former football player files lawsuit

It would appear, at least from this side of the story, that we already have.

Re: Former football player files lawsuit

The lawsuit points to similar examples in which courts ruled in favor of the athletes, and other athletes with one kidney who have had successful careers in sports.

this was the knee jerk to the Derrick Nix scandal.

University spokesman Van Arnold.

This in itself is disturbing enough.

Sad story. I wonder why they didn't just let him play.

If it's true that Disch actively recruited him after he was already on the LSU roster, we'll be in trouble with the NCAA as well.

Even if he was a walk-on? Kind of sucks for walk-ons if that's the rule. You really shouldn't have any claim on a player if he's playing FBS ball for you for free.

It exists to keep schools from poaching kids that had a good season, walk-on or not.  Say we had a kid that walked on and halfway through his freshman year, he stepped into a starting role and Alabama decided that they wanted him since he played well for us.  The rule keeps them from actively recruiting him.  He can ask permission from his coach to approach other schools but he has to initiate the contact with permission.  Hopefully, this is the situation and it just wasn't explained properly in the article.

HIPAA applies to health care workers. It doesn't apply to the rest of us.

Re: Former football player files lawsuit

HIPAA applies to pretty much anything that has to do with healthcare...and so if a team doctor here blabbed to a team doctor there, that could be a potential problem.  Several years ago, I was in the insurance business and it affected us as well in regard to health info, physicals and such.  I'm not an attorney or a health care worker but if you are in custody of health information in some manner, I think it applies to you as well.  And it is also possible I am confusing it with some other bullshit federal law regarding an overreach on privacy matters.  I can't keep up with all the acronyms those lying sacks of shit in congress come up with to protect themselves and fuck us little people. Argh...

no doubt.....

but that's not really the story is it?   if he admitted to saying such to a coach "in passing", it's fair game and none of the bullshite applies....

do you really think stephen beam would do that off the cuff???

knowing that guy, I seriously fucking doubt it......and last time I checked, sharing records between doctors is zero sum....

like all the other bs stories I've seen printed w/o merit, I'll let this play out and return afterwards......
