There has been a lot of commentary flying around about this guy. The relevant details:
Kentucky's currently paying him at a rate of $500,000 per year.
USM is supplementing that with something like $50,000 per year.
Kentucky's obligation expires in June of 2018.
The consensus seems to be that USM does not have anything like $550,000 per year to spend on an assistant coach. Pecoraro and Disch make just $125,000 per year each. Also, if that kind of money were available, Dawson might not be the most optimal person to pay it to.
So the status quo, in which Dawson makes $550,000 coaching USM's offense, is likely not sustainable.
How does this turn out? Does Dawson take a pretty substantial pay cut to stay at USM? Does USM find the money to keep him at a salary well in excess of Pecoraro's?
One likely scenario is that Dawson isn't able to get a substantially better OC job, but is able to get a P5 position coach job that pays more. George McDonald is getting paid around $330,000 per year to coach receivers at NC State, for example. Jay Norvell makes $380,000 as WR coach / passing game coordinator at Arizona.
