When does Berry make the move with Wallner?

“USM head coach Scott Berry has plans to eventually turn Wallner into a starting pitcher, but his status on the mound for 2018 is in some question after he threw sparingly during fall practice.”

You probably lose some of his bat but we need pitching desperately. He is hitting .308 with 8 RBIs and 10 SO so far. Wallner wants to pitch so when do you work him into the rotation full time?

I say let Wallner pitch.

I believe he has one appearance on the mound this season, in a closer or at least late relief role. My recollection is that he looked talented but rough, and probably earned a save on the scorecard.

At this point, my uneducated take on things is that he could go either way, but that he won't realize his potential until he decides which fork in the road to take... and USM needs a pitcher more than it needs a hitter.

Two games so far, two saves. One hit, one ER, 1 BB and 3 SO. He pitched in nine games (14 innings) in 2017.

Yup. No real reason to dither. Eagles need a pitcher, Wallner wants to pitch. Start tuning up and knocking the rust off for later in the season. It's not launching an ICBM, it's just college baseball.

If you can figure out what the most important thing in Hattiesburg is, I'll start a website about it.

TrentsCloset.edu?

I guess that's the latest attempt to flog Downtown back to life... a free party bus for people from parts West. Has anyone ridden it?

Hmmm... I've got an arthritic hip and my employer bought me a standing desk to help. Maybe some alumni or booster could get Wallner a standing desk.

Oh, wait! We can't even buy Wallner a damned Honey-Baked Ham!
