24/7 Sports on USM football scholarship accounting

https://247sports.com/college/southern- … 119313181/

The bottom line of this (interesting but poorly edited) article seems to be that USM has been well below the 85 scholarship limit for at least 4 or 5 years now, but is trying to arrest this trend. USM will go into the 2018 season with just 71 scholarship players, but that's actually an improvement.

What happened? Well, we've seen multiple coaches doing their best to hold things together in the short term. Probably the best example is the 2015 recruiting class: 24 players were signed. 11 were junior college recruits who are now gone. Six were underclassmen who've since left.

Hopson is supposedly good at recruiting. We will see about that... there's more to it than just getting the biggest/fastest men into Spring football.

Makes you appreciate what Monken did by his third year even more honestly.

Hop on paper is a good recruiter but is he wasting his time on the wrong kid? Good lord we lose a lot of players.
