Wacky way to increase revenue

Hear me out here. Instead of yelling out "TO THE TOP" after each first down, how about we sell this to businesses/corporations.

The PA announcer would say "First down Southern Miss!" then the name of the business. The crowd would then scream the slogan of the business.

Examples .....

PA: First down Southern Miss! .... Jimmy John's ......
Crowd: FREAKY FAST!!!

PA: First down Southern Miss! .... Morgan & Morgan ......
Crowd: FOR THE PEOPLE!!!

We had 148 first downs last year at home. Add in the other first downs after kickoffs/punts/turnovers, and you're up to 200 TTTs a year. Sell it for $2k for every first down and you got yourself $400k a year.

Re: Wacky way to increase revenue

LOL. Had to explain Tater Tot to my guest yesterday. The Morgan & Morgan thing would probably have been easier to explain.

Yeah, he's "for the reefer" until one of his German Shepherds smells some at an accident scene. Then "the reefer" turns into "the proximate cause of an avoidable accident that caused [his] client significant injury."

Re: Wacky way to increase revenue

I've been saying 'tater tot' for years. Makes as much sense as TTT. Sonic is the natural sponsor for this idea. BTW, why don't we sell tater tots at the games?

Re: Wacky way to increase revenue

If it's a long slogan, the PA announcer can say part of it and let the crowd finish.

PA: First down Southern Miss! Papa John's: Better ingredients, better pizza.....
Crowd: PAPA JOHN'S!!!

PA: First down Southern Miss! Sonic's got it....
Crowd: OTHER'S DON'T!!!

I'd contribute to ending TTT and I'll bet others would as well.

Originally called Southern to the Top! the University's fight song was penned in 1955 by Robert Hays, assistant director of The Pride of Mississippi Marching Band. Hays wrote the song as a closer for the first act of Hey Daze, a three-act musical based on student life at Mississippi Southern College. The song became so popular that it has been echoed at athletic contests for more than six decades.

The University's fight song was eventually renamed Southern Miss to the Top! to reflect the University's popular nickname, Southern Miss. Southern Miss to the Top! is played each time Southern Miss scores a touchdown in football. It is also an instrumental aspect of any Southern Miss athletic or academic event.

Yeah, but it was Giannini who decided we should just yell "To The Top!" after every damn first down... as if we'd never made a first down before.
