AL.com speculates on Chip Lindsey becoming USM HC

Lindsey was OC (and called the plays) for Monken's 9-5 team. I suspect he's as good a coach as USM has had recently, but AL.com's Lindsey-to-USM scenario is contingent on "another [sic] good season" from Hopson.

Just goes to show how low people's expectations of USM have fallen. That said, I doubt they're so low that anyone really thinks Hopson has done anything noteworthy at USM.

Fixed, thanks. On that site it changes the URL if you scroll to the end of the article. (WTF.)

The part about Lindsey is near the bottom.

I also think Lindsey has passed any job at USM by. I can see him winding up at Memphis if Mike Norvell moves on, for example, and that's nearly a $2,000,000/year+ job.

Hop is not going to leave by choice or by Dilbert. 6 wins and a bowl game will keep him employed at least another two seasons. By then the coaching landscape will have shifted significantly. I would hire App States coach before Chip regardless.

I hope "two seasons" is all. I can see the dude becoming USM's cut-rate Frank Beamer if he can really consistently make Little Seizure's Valium Bowls.

I'd rather Chip. Satterfield sounds almost exactly like Hopson when he talks to the media. I'm not sure I've ever seen him without gum in his mouth, either.
