Listened and took some notes:
Hannibal Buress will be at the Hattiesburg Saenger on 10/19/2018. I like the dude. There's a lot of Norm MacDonald in the way he does things. He's a a truth-teller, he's less dirty / angry than a lot of stand up comedians, and he's also said some nice things about Hattiesburg.
Tyler Cleveland was the first guest. He's Rick's kid, I think, and he handles the JSU beat for the Clarion Liar. Said that JSU is pretty much in the throes of the typical Hal Mumme slash-and-burn rebuild we've seen at Kentucky, NMSU, etcetera. Sounds interesting enough.
Patrick Magee joined the show after that. You may have already read that he thinks USM has the "potential" to win 8 games. At least half of the games are pick 'em affairs, and I guess that's just the reality of Hopson football.
Magee, etc., seem to be trying to prepare us for a loss to ULM, and are basically predicting losses vs. Appy and UNT, which is sad. The game at UAB borders on unwinnable, we're told.
Magee's biggest area of doubt is the receiving corps. Seems like that's been a bit of a dice roll at USM for 20 years now.
T.Q. Newsome is a talented recruit from Gulfport who'll find a home somewhere on offense in 2019+. Recruiting services have him listed as a pro-style QB, but the things Magee says about him seem to paint him as more of an athlete than a pocket passer.
George O'Leary is "not a nice person" per Magee. Former Biloxi HC Bobby Hall is, but has grown into a bit of an old cuss (https://www.sunherald.com/sports/high-s … 09450.html).
Marshall is high on a transfer QB from Wagner. Sounds like pretty thin gruel to me.
Jason Bailey joins Jamie Arrington near the end of the show and attempts to hand-wave Hopson's low salary. Many tots were consumed.
Bailey and Arrington pick players to watch on both sides of the ball, and we get Picasso Nelson, Tez Parks, Juco WR/QB Neil McLaurin (the Jim Jensen / Kordell Stewart of the team), and EMCC defensive halfback Ty Williams.
