New Orleans Baby Cakes to go bye-bye

Reactions are mostly derisive, but it makes me a little sad. When the Zephyrs came to town, there was genuine excitement.

How can you support a team named baby cakes?

Also, you need a bulletproof vest to get in and out of the area.

Not surprised.

When it comes to minor league team names, I'm pretty conservative. Fuck it, I'm actually pretty much the Pat Buchanan of minor league baseball team names. I think they should mostly just be named after the MLB club: Atlanta Braves, Gwinnett Braves, Mississippi Braves, Rome Braves... why overthink it?

That said, I also think it's a little silly that anyone stopped going to games when the Zephyrs became the Baby Cakes, but people at least claim that that's exactly what happened. FWIW, I haven't been to a Gwinnett Stripers game, but I did go to Gwinnett Braves games.

I did think it was kind of cute when one of my kids told me, "daddy, we went to a Baby Cakes game!"

Can't believe New Orleans can't support a minor league baseball team. Same with Mobile. They are losing the Baybears to Huntsville. The Baybears will now have the greatest minor league team name in the history of sports......

East Coast Hockey League had a team named the Macon Whoopee.

Cue the Newlywed Game thoughts here.

I remember them. They were the former Atlanta Knights. Once the NHL came back to Atlanta for round #2 the Knights moved to Macon and came up with that great name.

Good call.

Wasn't there a team called the Cleveland Steamers or something?

There were these guys... it does look like a Browns helmet with a steamroller on it, but I think they actually played in Providence, RI:
