Marshall @ USM: the numbers

Whatley completed 16 of 25 but only averaged a bit over 5 yards per attempt. He also ran 25 times for 40 yards and a TD. In college football, that stat includes sacks.

All in all, Whatley accounted for 174 of the team's 222 total yards, whether as a passer or a runner.

As a team, USM ran 45 times for 88 yards, an average of less than 2 yards per carry. Marshall did significantly worse though, rushing for just 31 yards.

Announced attendance was 20,375.

The teams combined for 7 turnovers and 17 penalties.

USM must win 2 of 3 remaining games to reach bowel eligibility. One of those wins would have to be a pretty substantial upset.

Re: Marshall @ USM: the numbers

This is why Jack is our starter. He averages over 400 yards passing per game. He can’t run for his life but our total O numbers are almost double. Tate is just not as accurate. Turnovers still kill us giving our opponents another score.

UAB is our chance to return the favor and catch them looking past us at Texas AM. Beating La a Tech at home will not be a huge upset. Biggest telling stat from yesterday was the time of possession. We had the ball almost 39 minutes. We play ball control against La Tech and we will win again.

With VA a Tech losing yesterday one would guess we will ink a deal with them soon but not until after UAB. We beat UAB and FAU beats UNT(they dismantled FIU by 35 yesterday) then the season might come down to the last game of the year between UAB at MTSU. Crazy conference this season.

What's crazy is that UAB is 8-1 with a blowout loss to Coastal Carolina. Bet they'd like a Mulligan on that one.

UAB is playing for a New Years Bowl bid. They need UCF and Fresno to slip once and they need to beat TAM. They will leap everyone in front of them if they beat TAM in College Station and UCF slips. Fresno still has SDSU and Boise ahead of them. UAB is very much hidden in the mix right now.

Re: Marshall @ USM: the numbers

These are the numbers: USM 26 - Marshall 22. Tate didn't cost us the game, that's an improvement. Hope Jack is available to back him up. Play solid D, fair  O, cut out half of the boneheaded mistakes and it'd be just like us to foul things up for them.

Hop already told Tyler Cleveland postgame that as long as Jack is healthy he is getting the ball at UAB. He should...but needs to be on a very short leash with the turnovers....as in one and you are done.

Got to. Just have Brett come in and tell him the name of the game is move the chains. Don’t try to do to much by himself and he’ll be better.

Re: Marshall @ USM: the numbers

Hop also said he expected Jack to start and play against Marshall, but told Tate last Monday he was it. Just saying. And no need for our opponent to know what you are going to do.

Sounds similar to our 2011 team that was 9-1 with only a loss to a mediocre Marshall team.

Then, they played an overmatched UAB team in an empty stadium.

We were all in the bathroom gathered under the heating vents.

That was a cold mofo.

This young Cleveland is a genius I see.  No way this dude scores any puss without paying for it.
