New Associate AD for External Affairs

We have done pretty, pretty good with hires from Morehead St......look for a couple new AC units and a O'Charleys Backyard Bounce House coming soon to campus........

Brad Smith, who has produced significant increases in ticket sales and revenue at three Division I schools, is in his fifth year on the staff at Morehead State.......until today when he returns to Southern Miss.

He now holds the title of Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs at USM. He will directly oversee fundraising, corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and the media relations, video production, and marketing departments.

Smith has led several facility enhancements improvements in the past, including Fazoli's Breadstick Beach, new air conditioning in the football and women's soccer locker rooms, baseball scoreboard, basketball court design, fueling station and the naming of R. Thomas Fossett training facility.

Smith also has sport oversight responsibilities for football, cheerleading and the dance team.

Since Smith has joined the MSU staff, total revenue through fundraising and corporate sponsorships has increased by 220 percent since 2015.

Smith led the new branding campaign and help create a targeted social media campaign that has increased Twitter followers to more than 37,000. He also has created and implemented numerous marketing campaigns, with the latest being the "One Town. One Team" marketing campaign.

Smith has been awarded for his efforts from the National Association of Collegiate Marketing, including the 2014-15 NACMA "Best of" national award winner in the following categories: Gold Winner for best Sales Piece and Silver Winner for best Sponsorship Activation.

Among his other accomplishments at MSU, Smith developed an exclusive comprehensive beverage rights partnership with G&J Pepsi, redesigned and oversaw the new basketball court design at Johnson Arena, developed an attendance plan where Morehead State football has led the Pioneer Football League in attendance four years in a row, developed a plan and set the all-time single game attendance record at baseball with over 1,100 fans in 2017, and created and implemented "Light Up the Lot," an outdoor basketball event designed to tip off the 2014-15 men's and women's basketball season where more than 2000 fans attended.

Smith, who was previously the assistant athletic director for marketing at Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), has also served stints at Texas A&M and Middle Tennessee. His efforts produced record-setting attendance at all three institutions. He also coordinated several award-winning promotional events.

Smith directed ticket sales, community relations, licensing, marketing and promotions, video board operations, social media efforts and a partnership with IMG Collegiate Marketing while at UAB from 2011-13.

He implemented "Hoops on the Haasephalt," an outdoor basketball preview event geared to introduce new head men's coach Jerod Haase, and more than 3,000 attended the inaugural session.

Smith's social media strategies increased the Blazers' Twitter followers by more than 100 percent and the Facebook presence by more than 50 percent in one year. He also oversaw a 16 percent increase in licensing sales with more than 1,200 new artwork submissions.

Smith served as the director of marketing at Texas A&M in 2010-11, leading a team that included 25 student staff members. He and his staff won two NACMA awards for student promotions and ticket sales.

He created attendance strategies for women's basketball that led to the Aggies averaging 6,100 that season. His "Sell Out Baylor" promotion produced the largest women's basketball crowd in program history at 13,162. He also led efforts that set the largest season-opening and overall football crowd in school history and the national student attendance record of more than 30,000.

Smith was the assistant athletic director for marketing and promotions at Middle Tennessee from 2005-10. He won four NACMA awards, including best student promotion in 2008. He oversaw a ticket sales plan that resulted in more than $3 million in revenue. His leadership also produced a 270 percent jump in women's basketball attendance in 2005-06, a 118 percent men's basketball attendance jump over a two-year period and the school-record for average football attendance in 2008. MTSU won the NCAA "Pack the House" award for women's basketball twice.

Smith created interactive marketing campaigns to increase ticket sales and create awareness of the Blue Raider brand. He also designed an award-winning family fun zone in the football stadium that generated more than $450,000 in new revenue. Smith was responsible for creating a committee to reach out to new and young families moving to the area. The idea developed into KidsFEST, an outdoor festival at football games for families, church groups and schools.

He began his career as the director of marketing and tickets sales for the Mississippi Sea Wolves hockey team from 2003-05 where he was in charge of management and event operations, sales, client services and fundraising. The Sea Wolves increased their attendance by 22 percent as a result of Smith's new ticket sales plans.

Smith earned his degree from Southern Mississippi in 2003. While there, he was a marketing and promotions executive for ISP Sports.

He and his wife, Melanie, have two sons, Grayson and Garrett.

EXACTLY!!!!!!

How do you hire and relocate a dude and assume that the new AD will keep him on his staff. I also believe that Mitchell was the plan all along since his hire in August. Dilbert was probably talking with Hart about ECU at the time Dilbert hired Mitchell in August as his #2.

Re: New Associate AD for External Affairs

If Mitchell wants a quick win and earn the respect of the Southern Miss base he needs to be on the phone closing this deal with Florida.....
