Technically, you always could ignore each other, but there is a new feature that will give you some electronic assistance with it.
At the extreme right side of the menu, you will now see an "Ignore users" option. It leads to a page where you can enter the name of any user you wish to ignore, view a list of ignored users, and reenable users you've ignored previously.
The ignore feature is what I'd describe as a "soft" ignore, in that you can still view posts made by ignored users with a single click.
This is all facilitated by a plug-in that somebody else wrote... mostly; I had to fix several bugs in it, and the ignore system still has a couple of weaknesses:
1. You can see ignored users' posts when they are quoted. The guy who made the plug-in just didn't write the code to prevent that. I may write that code, if there's demand for it.
2. When adding a user to your "ignore" list, you have to enter the name of the user you want to ignore exactly. That said, if you get the name wrong, the system does tell you.
I don't know if anyone will find value in this. I'm providing it on a trial basis. If it ends up stifling discussion, or if people abuse it, I'll remove it.
It's off topic, but this was not easy to implement. The plug-in as supplied had a number of obvious syntax errors and didn't even include a menu option to get to the "ignore user" control panel. It kind of felt like someone's unfinished science fair project. Not sure why... could be an intentional "shit test" LOL.
