The "spread" offense

Coaches generally say they draw from a lot of influences, there's nothing new under the sun, etc. That said, I think the Spread has probably run its course. I mention this because I see people talking about Larry Fedora, but to me he's a Spread guy.

The Spread, to me in 2020, is kind of like what the Wing-T used to be. It has its 3-4 little gimmicks, and it permutes these over a few different formations. It's not going to surprise anyone - either you execute it or the defense executes the well-known things that can stop it.

What is the spread? To me:

1) Work quickly, without a huddle or snap count.
2) Execute vs. overpower
3) Screw dropping back to pass or going under center
4) The "zone read" thing, where the QB runs at the DE and hands the ball off if he bites
5) Zone blocking vs. defined assignments
6) Plays that rely on receiver interaction ("pick" plays)

All of this stuff is getting stale. I'd like to see teams get back to the fundamentals like building a pocket for the QB, using a snap count to keep the defense off balance, using the deep pass open up the short pass, relying on offensive line calls and blocking assignments, etc.

We don’t stand a chance because we don’t have good players.  Hop really screwed the pooch on this one.

I'd like to see blocking.

You'll see more on Spacebook than WonderDog's offense.

Re: The "spread" offense

Unfortunately when we run the spread, it involved the other team and our asscheeks.
