Underrated shitty figures in USM history

Key word underrated. No Giannini, Saunders, EJ, Hopson etc.

Stephen Reaves
Allan Bridgford
Todd Bradford
Marcus Arroyo

Re: Underrated shitty figures in USM history

Heath Graham- was mostly our starter for 2.5 years. Terrible stats, and in this case the stats don't lie.

Tommy Waters- basically the same.

Dawayne Woods- the post-1999 downslide personified. He was a good runner who didn't get the ball because he fumbled too much.

OC Chris Klenakis... never understood why we hired him or what we expected from him. One and done if memory serves. Never even ran one play of his signature offense. I got the impression he and Bower hardly even spoke to each other.

JB would overrule OCs regularly.

Most seemed to be looking for a way out as soon as they got here.

Give it a few years and Bill McGillis will qualify. He's fresh on the brain now, but in time he will become yet another shitty afterthought like the people mentioned above.

Heath Graham was shitty but I think he won one at LSU.

Rip Scherer similar deal. Was with us one year and improved our offense. Then Capt. Queeq (Bower) fired him on Christmas eve. Underrated, but not shitty.

I recall he ran the spread at Nevada when maybe Hal Mumme was doing it at Valdosta State and Mouse Davis was using it at Houston or something...anyway, USM fighting Bowers during a mediocre year shut it down and whip the Nevada Kapertraitors pretty good.  And like the next season we hire the dude away and our O didn't change AT ALL!!

The biggest change I noticed thru all of those OC changes was Rip used 2 and 3 back sets to grind the ball.  Bower fired his ass because we didn't have any natural RBs.

That's pretty much how I remeber shit.

My recollection is that they called that Nevada offense "The Pistol." It was the offense that Nevada ran when Kap was there, or at least its predecessor. It has a lot of spread-type elements, but what defines it is lining the QB up in a shallow shotgun with a tailback at his side, about a half step behind him.

In any case, there's a lot of overlap between the shit Hal Mumme did, the shit Chris Klenakis / Chris Ault at Nevada did, etc., and probably even a lot of Run-and-Shoot and option offense schemes, if you look hard enough... but none of it ever resembled anything Bower ever ran at USM. That's what made Klenakis' tenure at USM so confusing.

Yep have to admit Klenakis and Scherer were both not given much of a chance.... I actually thought Scherer did a good job, Klenakis was handcuffed.

Re: Underrated shitty figures in USM history

Wonder if Klenakis actually knew he was hired to run Bower's offense, or if he thought Bower would let him run the "Pistol."
