How long were we one bad hire away from oblivion?

You compare our stadium, television, opponents, conference, atmosphere, or just about anything else to the years before EJ, and the differences are obvious and universally negative. One bad hire, and it's all just gone with the wind...

Then consider the decades leading up to EJ. We had an amazing string of good to excellent coaches (plus one who many say was an idiot who delegated well): Collins, Carmody, Hallman, Bower, Fedora...

The obvious question is whether a similar collapse would have happened if we'd messed up the hire after, say,  Bobby Collins, or after Bower. I don't know the answer to that.

Re: How long were we one bad hire away from oblivion?

It's good question. It feels like it happened at the worst possible time, but who can say? Lots of athletic programs have made a really bad coaching hire, but not many programs have fallen so far so fast. (Nebraska comes to mind.)

I tend to think the collapse after the EJ hire just goes to show how shaky the program was behind the curtain...and maybe Bower and then Fedora did a really good job of holding it together.

The bad hire was the one who approved the EJ hire. Her brilliance in personnel matters will reverberate throughout the campus long after flamingo boy leaves.

The fuckin cunt is a USM grad...she was apparently hired here so when she left we could replace her with Bennett and his weak ass resume would look good.
