Question About Jeff Bower

Bower was good at beating crappy P5 teams. Just off the top of my head, he beat Alabama, LSU, Illinois, OK State, and Georgia, but did so in years those teams had losing records.

That said, would Bower be the ideal coach for this weekend's game at a weak Tennessee team?

Absolutely. Sign him for a one game deal.

Not that this matters to some but a few of those teams were ranked at the time USM won.

Carmody’s Bama win, Collins FSU, MSU, Ole Miss wind, Hallmans LSU and Bower’s Nebraska wins are a few of my favorites

I've seen him coach all I want to see.  But I can tell you how the gameplan would be....Ito for 20+ carries, and Tez for 10+ of his own.  8 passes total and a bunch of D.

With our current O design, that will not be a winning formula this weekend.

I'll admit that the whole "didn't finish the year with a winning record" thing is a bit overblown. We have no control over how anyone else finishes the season. Injuries happen, locker rooms schisms happen, players get suspended, etc. Nebraska and Alabama were definitely ranked the last time we beat them.

Re: Question About Jeff Bower

Not over blown at all. It measures sucess against good football teams.  Kinda like quality wins vrs top 25.   It has plenty of merit.  Which means more?  Beating a 3-9 Tenn team, or a 9-3 Tenn team?

The whole point when I did the original research on Bower was to show he made a nice living beating average to below average oppenents.  He never hit a home run!

Beating a 2-2 UAB team at home that didn’t play football two years ago....

Good point, except they were 4-3.

Re: Question About Jeff Bower

I'll admit, I don't attach too much attention to our CUSA schedule, unless we're seriously threatening to run the table. Otherwise, I figure those will be depressing, unpredictable games, and until something changes I'm going to assume we'll lose some head-scratchers and that's that. The Tennessee game is a much bigger deal to me personally.

Yep...was just referring to conference play and their conference crapusa record but either way the results still suck......
