Tiger Woods... a sucker's bet?

https://www.sbnation.com/golf/2017/12/1 … sters-2018

"Tiger Woods mania is real and it’s spectacular — and it’s not just the talking heads on Golf Channel who are beside themselves with glee as the man of the hour takes his place atop the Hero World Challenge scoreboard.

On the strength of his opening-round 69 on Thursday and continued stellar play on Friday at the Hero World Challenge, the injury-plagued 41-year-old is rocketing up oddsmakers’ 2018 Masters boards.

Ahead of Thursday’s start of his first competition in 301 days, Woods was a 66-1 (sidenote: That is an INSANE number for a guy who hasn’t played in 300 days and hardly at all in the last four years) to earn his fifth green jacket."

fwiw.....made this one after the first round for shits and gigs....couldn't resist the allure....

nothing would be better for the sport at this point if he were to make a mild comeback of sorts.....the general public would eat it up like flies pouncing on a big ol' pile of moo patties....

Those are pretty long odds, especially given the fact that he'd already played one good round.

I can understand why he'd be a long shot, though. He's sucked pretty badly for a while now.

The really interesting bet is whether he'll ever win another major. I think Vegas is giving 20-to-1 odds on that right now. That should be more like 100-to-1 in my opinion. There are too many good golfers out there right now for Tiger to win a major.

2 over after 3 today.....oh wellzy.....

I would take that major play if my service offered it.....he's obviously still rusty, but I think all the fallout from the 9-iron to the windshield and injuries have finally put him in a position where he now FULLY understands what it's like to be humbled.....

he's still got some "Jack" in him.....

one of my fave memories back in the day.........I was standing next to Jack's son (Steve) in a rip-roaring PACKED 19th hole at HCC pounding beers watching his '86 Masters' final 9 during a rain delay in the former Magnolia Classic......hell, my hand still hurts from all those 'drunk high fives' wink

watching the following is a must every April during Masters' week.....

I remember '86. My family always watched golf. Tom Watson was my grandma's favorite. I liked Craig Stadler and Fred Couples. I miss those days. (Pretty sure 90% of the board misses the 80s too, based on the stuff people post here LOL.)

Later on, my mom worked for Ron Hickman, who golfed for USM and (I think) eventually returned to Hattiesburg to be a pro somewhere. That was cool. I was around the game a lot. People like Morten Andersen, Tim Floyd, and even Aeneas Williams would play that course.

Tiger Woods is a player who seems to me to muscle the club around too much. You can get maybe an extra 20 yards on your drive that way, but when it all falls apart, it falls apart bad. Just my opinion. I'm not a "Class A Professional" or even Class I-AA.

no shite......Ron now owns Timberton that married a former southern miss golfer Pipper Curley (maiden name).....

my playground was HCC growing up......flat out pure circumstance and luck moving from StL in '74.....it became my fave as I aged.....I had the ability, just not the skull cap once I began to enjoy the 12 oz. curls and the snatch that was everywhere and available after puberty.....

there are so many stories that I cannot write about (yet still enjoy and laugh about).......wouldn't trade it for anything....

Re: Tiger Woods... a sucker's bet?

Hickman usually walks with one of the final groups at the PGA Championship as a rules official. Listen to the announcer on the tee next time you watch a PGA Championship, they'll say "walking rules official with this group is Ron Hickman of Hattiesburg, Mississippi" or something like that.

No shit. I had no idea how well things turned out for him. Doesn't surprise me, though. We all liked him and his wife a lot 20 years ago, and that's not always the case with club pros.

Funny the video shows Norman choking on 18....
It could have been the water shot on 16 or the bunker
On 15 or any other time he choked on the back nine
Of a major..... 30 for 30 on Norman major chokes

That's just Greg. I chalk it up to an Aussie feeling inferior in a sport full of native Brits. The AusTTTralian always came out.

There's a lesson there. No reason he shouldn't be right up there with Tom Watson or Tiger, if not Jack. It's about feeling like you belong.

Work hard until you know you belong is my answer.
