If they don’t screw it up they will get a better job in 1-2 years. With our schedule and returning talent next season, we “should” get to double digit wins. If you avg 32-35 points per game, you will have calls from the ECU’s, Tulanes, Nevada’s and Bowling Greens this time next season.

I see this a lot lately. You're selling USM short. Why would an OC who's succeeding that well at USM leave for Bowling Green, ECU, or Nevada? Those places aren't exactly Grand Central Station when it comes to the coaching profession.

I think a move to a P5 assistant coach job is much more likely. If you're coaching in the G5, and you're not a has-been (Tommy West, Rickey Bustle, etc.) then you've got your eyes on building a resume and getting to a truly higher level. USM is at least as good a place to do that as BGSU. Bouncing around to other, marginally better G5 schools doesn't strike me as a good career move.

Not selling USM short, just realistic when it comes to income. Making 200K in Hattiesburg vs one million in Greenville, NC is a big difference.
On a related point, I would love to know how pathetic our offer was to Chip Lindsay seeing that he recently interviewed with South Alabama.......

Believe we had a chance to hire Lindsey, but McGillis fucked up. Rumor is that he would have taken the job had he been offered after the interview, but McGillis wanted to keep interviewing people instead. IDIOT.

Are you talking about hiring Lindsey as HC instead of Hopson? That does seem like a missed opportunity.

Yep. Classic Southern Miss incompetence.

Y'all gotta remember that Lindsey was 2-3 years removed from coaching Spain Park High School at that time.  Hard to imagine how he would have been at recruiting and what his Defensive hires could have been like.  Then again, he lost out to Hopson.  Apparently, his life's goal wasn't to be run off from here in 12-14 years...

Once Kentucky stops sending payment for our coordinator yes.

That statement makes no "cents, sense, scents, since".

Ace...

Kentuckys financial agreement with Dawson expires in June. We have been paying him 50K per season and Kentucky has been paying him 500K. Once the UK money runs out we either try to keep Dawson at a significant pay cut (our total Asst coaches pool is 800K) or he goes somewhere else for more cash. The top 10 assistants in CUSA average around 260K per season. Do you increase his base 200K to keep him or do you spend 200K -250K on another coordinator?

Are we finished paying Ellis Johnson for destroying our program?  If so, it seems we could pay our assistance a bit better.
