Is it really that inevitable? It's State, not the frickin' Yankees.

Yes. I always expect the absolute worse to happen when we play State in anything. They just have the voodoo magic when they play us in anything. When they pulled out that win over UIC in the regional to avoid elimination, I knew they were winning the thing. They just catch all the breaks.

We have some big question marks on the mound and our mental game is weak. We were so intimidated when we played them last year. Sad. State will also be much improved on the mound.

Wouldn’t be surprised if this is a repeat of CSF in 2009.

Yeah, they looked very tight that day.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Scheduling update... baseball insider on another board is saying we'll play in the Stephen F. Austin Tournament in place of Stony Brook. The event will take place in Nacogdoches, TX at Jaycees Field (not to be confused with the old Jaycees Park that used to be home of Hattiesburg rec league baseball). Other teams in the field include Stephen F. Austin, South Dakota State, Bradley, and UT-Arlington. Unclear if we will play 3 games (we'd play every team but one) or if we'd play 4 games (we'd play every other team in the field).

If we play 4 games, that gives us 56 games which is the max the NCAA allows. If we play 3 games, that gives us 55 games, meaning we could play 1 more game per NCAA rules. Don't know if there's another midweek game that hasn't been announced yet.

Feb 16-18: Mississippi State
Feb 20: at South Alabama
Feb 23-25: SFA Tournament (SFA, South Dakota State, UT-Arlington, Bradley)
Feb 27: at New Orleans
Mar 2-4: Cox Diamond Invitational (Eastern Michigan, Ohio State, Nicholls)
Mar 7: at Alabama
Mar 9-11: Georgia Southern
Mar 14: at Tulane
Mar 16-18: UTSA
Mar 20: Southern
Mar 23-25: at FAU
Mar 27: at Ole Miss
Mar 30-Apr 1: Rice
Apr 3-4: ULL
Apr 6-8: WKU
Apr 10: Ole Miss (Pearl)
Apr 13-15: at FIU
Apr 17: at SE Louisiana
Apr 20-22: Middle Tennessee
Apr 24: South Alabama
Apr 27-29: at Old Dominion
May 1: Tulane
May 4-6: at UAB
May 11-13: Louisiana Tech
May 15: New Orleans
May 17-20: at Marshall

Re: Offseason baseball thread

So after we play State, we'll have 9 (or 10) straight games away from Hattiesburg. Fun.

Thanks, New York!

Assholes. They have no idea what the plight of gay people in Mississippi really is, and it's not like they'll ever bother coming down to find out.

23 or 24 home games? The 13th grade brigade will not be happy.

I count 27.

15 SUNWACUSA games
3 game series vs State
3 game series vs Georgia Southern
2 midweekers vs ULL
1 midweeker vs Southern
1 midweeker vs UNO
1 midweeker vs USA
1 midweeker vs Tulane

= 27 home games

I count 21 true road games and 7 neutral siters. That's 55 total games, and like I said, the NCAA lets you play a max of 56. There could be a midweeker that we don't know about yet. But we've scheduled under 56 games before.

Thank God. Can't piss off the blue-haired mafia that inevitably takes over any college sports program in the Southeast.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Digging through the media guide. We had a 12-game road trip in 1985 under Denson. 7 stops.

Thibodeaux → Hammond → Natchitoches → Ruston →  Grambling → Monroe → Cleveland (MS)

Re: Offseason baseball thread

While I'm posting some of my USM baseball history research, here's another project I worked on in the fall. Just never got around to posting it.

Here are all the 3-game series where USM had 10,000+ fans total (spread over 3 games) for the weekend. I expect a new record come opening weekend.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Strange how well-attended those 2012 series were. Wasn't that a year without a postseason for USM baseball?

It was. But we had just come off a pretty solid 2011 season and were on a streak of 9 straight seasons with a regional appearance. So, season ticket sales were probably pretty high which helped our attendance #s.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Happy baseball new year. May we get a schedule out before 2019 and a series win over State to start the season!
