Re: Offseason baseball thread

This guy cracks me up. Every site that doesn’t pick Rice to go 56-0 is “biased” or has no credibility.

http://csnbbs.com/thread-824025-post-14 … id14981291

Rice is sorta going through what FSU football went through with Bowden (an ancient coach struggles in his later years as the game passes him by) and a few of their fans can’t cope.

It amazes me he has not retired or they have not pushed him out yet for a younger coach. these days all college sport is a younger mans game to coach. I guess his new wife that is a third of his age must be doing something to keep him upright.

Is this true? Because I don’t think it is.

As for Graham, it’s probably time for him to go. Rice is the 2nd best job out of the non-P5s (Fullerton being #1). They have a great facility, strong tradition, and pretty good fan support. A bunch of great candidates would be lining up for that position.

He is an arrogant, condescending ass. "E-mailed the editor...".

I enjoy messing with him. He's the guy who goes through a thread and finds one minor quip in a post that may be unrelated to a larger point and tries to correct the person. 50 percent of the time his "correction" was wrong. Naturally, I sometimes make a point of doing the same thing to him.

Always tries to downplay conference mates' success, especially our's. He's been saying the same shit about USM whenever we are good for like 7 years ("you play in a bandbox," "must be nice to load up with JUCO players...we can't because of academics."

Good for Rice info. Otherwise, can't stand the guy.

Ha, yeah, in the fall he said it was unfair for “non-academic schools” to get a bunch of JUCOs when someone was discussing WKU’s JUCO-heavy 2017 class. I’m like, just call us directional schools, dude.

He was also obsessed with The Streak™, of course referring to Rice’s 20-something year streak of winning either the regular season or tournament title in the WAC/CUSA. We broke that, which I’m sure devastated him. Too bad we TTTed the chance to break their regional streak.

Reynolds and Sandlin made D1Baseball’s “Best of the Rest” 2018 prospect list. Players on this list are described “strong candidates to be drafted among the top 10 rounds in 2018.”

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Munz/HA posted an article on the 2018 team today. Some good tidbits in here.

http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/stor … 031231001/

- Jaylon Keys is the starting CF as of now (not Franklin, who nearly everyone thought had the edge there)
- Ostrander "hopes" to have Powers in the rotation opening weekend
- Wallner's hip seems to doing OK, but Berry isn't ready to put him in the rotation just yet (??)

I don't know who totted it up, but the phrase "Best of the Rest" is epitome of tottiness.

It kind of reminds me of how corny people like to say "late, great," as in "Haslett's defensive line was anchored by the late, great Norman Hand."

Re: Offseason baseball thread

D1 chat ongoing ... couple TTTers are perturbed we weren’t in the preseason poll. I like the “no CUSA at all?” comment .... as if this league is an elite top 3-4 league that puts teams in Omaha regularly. With the exception of 2016, CUSA has been mediocre at best since the AAC exodus. It is better than CUSA football and basketball though.

https://d1baseball.com/chats/d1baseball … p-25-chat/

TTTer: No Southern Miss in your top 25? No CUSA at all?

Kendall Rogers: If they aren't in the rankings today -- they aren't ranked. USM is very very similar to South Alabama for me. They were heavily in our discussions. I really like what Southern Miss brings to the table offensively, but the pitching staff is a concern for me outside of Sandlin and Wallner. Two X-factors for me: Stevie Powers and Walker Powell. Those are two premium arms who could help take USM to the next level.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

Fan: More intriguing series opening weekend: CSF/Stanford or MSU/USM?

Aaron Fitt: I am very intrigued by both, and I think we will have coverage at both. I will probably be in Hattiesburg; I suppose I'd vote for that series just because I think the atmosphere is going to be uncommonly electric for February, especially since it's a rematch of the regional final.

Fitt also seems to think that Ethan Small will be in the State rotation to start the year. So, we’ll likely see a Pilkington/France/Small rotation opening weekend from MSU.

Re: Offseason baseball thread

https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/Vi … icle=14831

Southern Miss should have no problem scoring runs, as they batted .307 as a team a year ago on their way to a 50-win season. If Matt Wallner played in the SEC or ACC as opposed to Conference USA his name may already be on a similar level to that of Seth Beer after an extremely productive freshman season that saw Wallner hit .336 with 19 home runs and 63 RBI. He also throws in the upper-90s off the mound but is a primary outfielder for the Eagles. Mason Irby, Hunter Slater and LeeMarcus Boyd are also among the more productive returning players on offense, and the team is excited about third baseman Luke Reynolds, a transfer from Mississippi State. The weekend starting staff will be completely new, fronted by Colt Smith who went 6-2 with a 3.36 ERA in a swing role last year. Preseason All-American side-arming closer Nick Sandlin went 10-2 a year ago with eight saves in 29 relief appearances spanning 56 2/3 innings. As a whole Conference USA is expected to be more competitive this year, and Southern Miss’ 2018 season will begin exactly where there 2017 season ended, at home against Mississippi State.
