Southeastern LA head football coach Ron Roberts resigns to be ULL DC

This one's a bit of a head-scratcher. Roberts has an 89-45 record as a head coach, at Delta State and then SLU, and now he's going back to being a coordinator... in the Sun Belt?

Maybe he doesn't interview well? Is Hopson really that much better than this dude?

Southland schools don't pay their corches shit. Just looked it up and this guy was making $130k as HC. Hopson was making more at Alcorn.

That's probably a big part of it, but is trading $130,000 / year for $160,000 or whatever really the main goal?

Roberts' focus has to be on getting to the real next level, which is either G5 head coach or P5 coordinator, and making more like $500,000+ per year.

He must think that being coordinator at ULL gives him more of a pathway to that than being the head coach at SLU.

He's also watched multiple assistants leave for bigger schools and make a lot more money.
