QB battle?

USM has both 2017 starters returning, and Marcelo Rodriguez. This recruiting season, Hopson signed two junior college quarterbacks, McLaurin (who likes to run) and Abraham (passer).

What's up with that? It seems like Hopson doesn't even know what kind of offense he wants to run, much less who his QB is. Griggs did a pretty good job last year on paper at least, but the staff never seems satisfied with him as the starter.

Do we see a battle for the QB job in this offseason?

I think Abraham or Rodriguez.  You can tailor the offense to either.

Griggs is limited.

Keon is well, Keon.

The other guy I have no idea about.

Re: QB battle?

McLaurin was signed as a WR I believe

I think we see Griggs running one side and Abraham the other during spring.  Then season begins with Abraham starting, Griggs no 2 and Rodriguez no 3.

Googled it, and I think you're right.

24/7 Sports had him listed as a dual threat QB, but they're not always very accurate.

Re: QB battle?

Dude looks more like a RB if you watch his juco film...most the time, he has no intention of doing anything else and does a fine job of it.  That won't work here as a mainstay obviously.

I think Whatley gets a redshirt this year and who knows what comes of Keon.  He can still take a shirt but don't know why he would.  I say move him to RB or even D if he has any abilities there and call it a day.
