A Florida sheriff’s officer who did “nothing” during the Parkland school shooting last week has resigned in disgrace, officials said Thursday.
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School resource officer Scot Peterson was armed, in uniform and “clearly” knew there was an active shooter but did “nothing” to intervene, according to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel.
Security footage shows Peterson “arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position and he never went in,” according to Israel, who said the revelations made him “sick to [his] stomach.”
Israel said Peterson should have “Went in, address the killer, kill the killer.”
“After seeing video, witness statements and Scot Peterson’s very own statement, I decided this morning to suspend Scot Peterson without pay, pending an internal investigation,” Israel said. “As is his right, Scot Peterson chose to resign.
Calls and knocks on his door at his home went unanswered.

So, he just resigns to collect a pension, with no further consequences?

Maybe there should be a law requiring Law Enforcement to do their job?

Is the SO immune from liability?

As for the FBI, all we get is smugness and flippancy.

And where is Jeff "The Mouse" Sessions, who I believe oversees them and has the authority to hold them accountable?

People tend to look at school violence as a contemporary problem, or a problem that's on the increase, but it's really not. The worst school massacre in US history happened over 90 years ago. The second-worst was a Virginia Tech, and that was over a decade ago. I don't like kids getting shot, but what we're going through now is just an old-fashioned moral panic.

It’s less about past history and more about who we are as a society today. More and more individuals today are lacking a moral compass that holds people accountable and balanced. We are tipping towards a Godless society for a miriad of reasons including growing up in a broken or divorced home, the need for acceptance on social media and the polarizing negative impact both side of the media represent 24/7. Guns aren’t the problem. When you combine all of the above in a socially challenged and unstable individual, then you have the root of the problem.

Look at what happened this week with the passing of Billy Graham. You had some twenty something year old reporter for Teen Vogue come out and said she hopes he burns in hell and called him a piece of S—t. Even if you don’t agree with someone’s beliefs you don’t go to that extreme unless you don’t have moral accountability or a soul.

If the 2nd Amendment can be dramatically limited in the name of the public good, the 1st should be subject to this as well, and there's no legitimate or uplifting purpose for a magazine (or site, or whatever) called "Teen Vogue."

Teens need to focus on building an eventual career and an identity, not on being narcissistic, pop-culture-obsessed idiots.
