Question for our liberal friends

If the Congress passed legislation banning gun ownership in the U.S. , how many of you would then support disallowing armed security details for all current and former elected politicians ?  This would include no armed security for Obama and Clinton or any member of their families of course .

Re: Question for our liberal friends

It's a valid question, and an equally good question is "have you ever shot a firearm before?"

Most of us here probably have, and I suspect we realize a few things:

* A big deer rifle with no grip and maybe a bolt action isn't really good to take to an indoor range or learn on.

* Ditto for a handgun, regardless of type.

* Having to perform some manual action with every shot doesn't serve the cause of gun safety in an overall sense. It's just one more unwelcome point of failure in most scenarios.

* People who own rifles are, on average, very responsible people when it comes to guns.

I keep an intermediate caliber semi-automatic rifle in my closet. It's not an "assault" anything... it's an opportunity to teach a skill and maybe even a little philosophy to exchange students, city girls, etc. on otherwise boring, meaningless rainy days.

And it's easier to hit your target than it is with a golf club, and more practical.

Re: Question for our liberal friends

Seems to work perfectly well the last 100 years in the UK and many other countries. Americans have proven time and again we are too stupid, angry or mentally fucked in the head to be responsible with most types of weaponry. You can have a cap gun or paint ball gun. Maybe a pellet gun. Even then you'd probably shoot someone's eye out.

If you're Canadian you can have a gun. They don't kill people with their guns.

That really depends on how you define "work." Preventing school shootings is not exactly the crowning achievement of humanity.

Re: Question for our liberal friends

In my 70 years, I've only shot 3 types of "guns".  An M-1 in Boot Camp ( 1967 ) to qualify to be able to graduate.  A 50 cal. on the 82 footer in Viet Nam, And a flare gun ....twice.  Came close to firing a 45 cal. handgun while on Quarterdeck watch at this damn seagull that was driving me nuts in Cape May, NJ..  Never fired a weapon as a civilian, and probably won't.

I personally don’t know a liberal (including myself) that wants an all-out ban of guns but hey, keep fighting those windmills, Don Quixote.

Re: Question for our liberal friends

Steven colbert and other Hollywood libs don't know what to think about Trump wanting to pass a comprehensive gun control law. It's pretty funny seeing their heads almost explode from him actually wanting to do the right thing for once. The NRA is freaking out and in scramble mode now making calls and offering millions to buy the votes needed to stop anything from changing.

Re: Question for our liberal friends

Some of us have shot them and hunted before, grew up in the Sip, have every relative they know own them and hunt or shoot targets with them.

Yet sometimes people make choices to not own them. For their own personal reasons and responsibilities. Because of issues they might not discuss, they choose to not own them or even be around them very much.

Some people can see that, some people can't... Guns and bullets are just objects... The problem is people making the choices they make and knowing what the reprocusions are.

Some people choose to not own guns, and some people choose to buy/find them.

No laws will change that.

https://news.northeastern.edu/2018/02/s … cher-says/

Four times the number of children were killed in schools in the early 1990s than today, Fox said.
“There is not an epidemic of school shootings,” he said, adding that more kids are killed each year from pool drownings or bicycle accidents. There are around 55 million school children in the United States, and on average over the past 25 years, about 10 students per year were killed by gunfire at school, according to Fox and Fridel’s research.

you might as well ban 'breathing' and be done with it....

Re: Question for our liberal friends

I realize this is not the place for reasonable discussion but I’m annoyed by this:

I think semiautomatic rifles should be banned. But semiautomatic handguns are more of a problem—yet rarely discussed. It has never made sense to me.

All that semi automatic shit should be banned from any civilian use.

I can fire mine as fast with more effectiveness than any semi-auto....strap one on each shoulder, with one in tow, and you easily have a more effective killing machine.....

some people are simply dipshites when it comes to the root cause....

break in my house, and guess which one I pick up......

fuck with me in Johnny Q. field, and guess what I have holstered.....

there's a reason you have varying types for varying situations....
