Re: Money woes

The overall budget has increased since Fedora was hired. It's pure stupidity that coaching salaries have been cut almost in half since then.

What has changed if budgets are larger?

Good article and a topic that needs to be discussed collectively in order to find a way to either identify a realistic solution or come to the realization that our expectations as a fanbase are long overdue to be adjusted due to the ever increasing disparity of money in college athletics.

First immediate observation from the article is the current value of Conference USA. At its current standing, what is the value in 2018 when financial benefit is gone yet travel expenses within the conference footprint increase. If The Sun Belt provides more or equal revenue while reducing our expenses what is holding USM back from making that adjustment. If perception is hindering this possibility, I can assure you that fear has long passed.

If Independence is a financially positive opportunity but presents more effort on the Athletic Director to schedule games and work with bowls as a viable regional option, why is this not currently on the table?

Well, the money's going somewhere else. Some guesses:

- "Cost of attendance"

- Non-coaching athletic department staff

- Women's sports

- Paying down the South end zone addition debt (or just shoring up the balance sheet generally)

The bottom line is that everyone since Giannini has been an unapologetic bean-counter / compliance-box-checker with zero ambition when it comes to football... not that Giannini was that great or anything.

Sounds reasonable. Maybe they are having to pay the bills G left USM with.
