No field reports then? This would have been a good year for some bootleg QB scouting reports.

I did find an article about this on SouthernMiss.com: http://www.southernmiss.com/sports/m-fo … 18aad.html. Other than that, I'm finding nothing.

This is disappointing, but not surprising. The level of scrutiny Georgia Bulldog Spring football has been subjected to is pretty ridiculous. Just goes to show how the gap has grown, I guess, but even 3 or 4 years ago we were trading reports about USM Spring football online.

Re: Spring football

"[QB] Griggs... was not part of the rotation. He spent the majority of practice working out on the sidelines with other hurt or injured players. Griggs played 10 games as a junior, throwing for 1,879 yards, 16 touchdowns and two interceptions."

"Other" injured players... does Hopson just consider this dude perpetually injured? Does he have some chronic condition, like Lupus? Can't say I've ever watched him play and said, "yup, he's hurt."

I have no problem with a QB competition. It was expected. But the way that Hopson et al. just wave their hands and say "he's hurt" anytime Griggs is mentioned is weird.

If he's not the kind of QB you want to play, just say that. Or say nothing. The "injured" claim is often implausible.

Re: Spring football

Griggs has an achilles injury but I don't know any more than that.

I "hear" that Jack has quite an arm.  I also hear that Rodriguez and Jack had good zip on the ball yesterday which is interesting since the wind was a damned gale.  There was no mention of Keon doing anything good or bad (their momma must have instilled the old "if you don't have something good to say..." thing really well).  Word is that Tate Whatley has added an inch of height and some weight but he's still recovering from a fall injury so he's no-contact until summer drills begin.

And former QB Steven Anderson that was moved to TE was getting reps instead at FB where at 6'2", 255 and 4.6 speed he was crushing the D!!

There you go boys...

Re: Spring football

Pretty good article. My very preliminary impression is that the team is well-set from a size/strength/speed standpoint. Whether Hopson, etc., have any idea what to do with it is another question.

Re: Spring football

We will actually be better at RB, QB and WR next season. Depth and experience will take us to the Mountain Hop this year.

QB yes by default if someone other than 2 or 7 starts.

RB. No. Hell no. WTF are you smoking?

WR. See RB comment x 3.

WR. See RB comment x 3.

QB we can all agree we "should" have a giant leap in efficiency and create a more balanced offense with having a true pocket passing game this season. Hoping we have one stand out(Abraham or Rod) before we break for summer.

RB....with a more balanced offense adding a true passing game, that will open up the running attack that won't be completely reliant on one person. The talent of Ito was truly unique, but if we had a more balanced offense, I believe we would have added another 40-65 yards to our total offense each game which might not sound like a lot, but it moves the chains more times and keeps the D off the field. We have plenty of depth this season. Imagine if George Payne is completely healthy by fall. Add the potential for Tez and Steve Anderson we will have several weapons to carry the load.

WR.......we are not inexperienced and add the abilities of a true pocket passer for Tim Jones and Quez. My hope is Griggs can still be a part of the offense in some other roll next season to add another wrinkle.

Our offense killed us last season. Griggs was decent but was inconsistent enough that it kept us a one dimensional opponent where teams focused in on Ito. You add more balance in 2018. If a Quez takes the next step and a healthy Payne returns with a solid QB to compliment them, we are going to add significantly to our point total.

And don't forget.....our best, most consistent weapon of all returns next year as well......
