Larry Fedora on CTE

Seems to think the pendulum has swung too far in the direction of safety:

Re: Larry Fedora on CTE

This PC bullshit is killing this country and sports. Players know the dangers involved. All these rules to make the game ‘safer’ are actually doing the opposite. Ask any player if they would rather get hit high or low. They will all choose high.

Re: Larry Fedora on CTE

Most Australian rules football players and Rugby players will tell you they don't see the necessity of all the pads and helmets. I don't think any of those players have been linked to this CTE.

I think you're right.

What Fedora said has some merit, but football is a game that evolves. You've got American football, Canadian football, two flavors of Rugby Football, soccer, etc.

Even basic crap like downs and the 7 point TD weren't always a part of American football at the college level.

And I wonder if CTE is associated with the emphasis on offense and especially passing that we see now. The pass interference rule (which I hate) seems like something that would just encourage dangerous, open-field plays and other risky situations.

Re: Larry Fedora on CTE

I keep going back to the Washington St kid and think this will become the new normal that will change the game forever. Kid was barely a starter and took his own life due to CTE. Autopsy showed he had the brain of a 65 year old man due to the damage he endured.

Once this starts happening at the high school level more frequently the game will be forced to change and its not that far away. They just built a 70 million dollar high school stadium 5 minutes from my house.....to compete with the 60 million dollar stadium in the next town over. Sports medicine institutes are popping up like dental offices and nail salons where I live. The high school “kids” now look like true sophomores at the college level and will only get stronger. CTE will become exposed in the under 18 demographic and only then will you see the impact in college and pro sports. Sorry Larry, it’s coming in our lifetime.

Re: Larry Fedora on CTE

my response on this at the nazi board.....

players are bigger/faster/stronger.....the skull cap is still the same as it was 4000 yrs. ago......tackling and lack of fundamentals has been a joke for some decades....

the bottom line is, if a player wants to take the risk in the arena??? your choice pal.....

however, for fedhat to run his yammer with that comparative is as stupid as it fk'n gets......

piss on him......

Most important thing is probably the graduate school of Speech Pathology. If nothing else, USM definitely taught me to pronounce the letters "F" and "U".

I got a pretty bad concussion when I tripped over a hammock my parents got on their honeymoon. Can I sue Mexico?

I'm guessing the statute of limitations has run out by now.  We wore leather helmets when I was at USM.
