The AAC Struggle is Real........

"We're trying to stand up in the American. And it's totally different. Nothing against Southern Miss and UTEP, but Houston and Memphis are not Southern Miss and UTEP. So trying to climb back up has really been a struggle."

-Tulane AD Troy Dannen

Re: The AAC Struggle is Real........

Couple of thoughts......

1) His ignorance to the history of the program he is leading is obvious. Green Wave fans would agree that he is naive with that comment. Tulane is 1-9 the last 10 times we played them. Hell, they even have a losing record against UTEP historically.

2) Dilbert should use this opportunity to "educate" Dannen on how his program stands historically against USM. Take a friendly jab in the media while the sports cycle is slow right now in the middle of the summer. Dilbert should also throw some shade on the AAC with his response. If Dilbert says nothing that will actually speak volumes for our fanbase IMO.

3) Could USM beat Houston or Memphis the last few years? No. Would like to think Monkens last team would be competitive with those squads but both of them were ranked during the 2015 season so we would have lost.

4) Would Tulane have beaten us since joining the AAC. Probably in 2014 but thats it. Now, I believe Willie Fritz is a solid hire and he will have them competing out of the AAC basement this season and next. But the AD's statement wasn't discussing the future.

FYI, the conversation that was being had when he made that comment was in reference to basketball.

This is from the host of the interview. The spirit of the comment was all inclusive regarding spending and competition in general.

Both at once?

"I don't think being in the 6th best conference is too bad."
"Look for Crickets Robertson to be one of the first 64 players chosen in the draft."
"Went to Starkville and came within one bad throw of taking the series."

I've heard that before: Teevens, the last guy they hired from the Saints... I think Tulane football is dead. And no, the Superdome was not the problem. That was always a stupid excuse.
