When is TV not really TV?

ESPN+, ESPN3, Stadium/Facebook?

Re: When is TV not really TV?

It beats the alternative of zero access I guess.

I cut the cord two years ago so streaming is fine with me. Stadium actually does a good job with their coverage.

Re: When is TV not really TV?

Streaming is the future. ATT will provide Uverse TV, Direct TV and DTV Now Streaming which has ALL of the coverage you will want. They are moving Uverse TV customers to DTV Now. The other providers are doing the same so I disagree, it is TV but for any device you watch video on.

Now what you mean being on major viewed networks that carry sports like, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX and ESPN, then yes I agree with you. Those networks are where the grown ups sit. The other networks like Stadium, Oprah, Home Shopping Network, eSPN G5, You Tube, and Facebook are where the kids sit. That would be "oui".

Bar Rescue is on something called Paramount now. Other than that, or if it doesn't have a scoreboard or vintage Clint Eastwood shooting up a bunch of mexicans I don't watch it. Streaming suits me.

Re: When is TV not really TV?

Been streaming here for about 3 months now and have a little amplified external antenna for the locals.  I have a DirectTV Now basic account and it has everything the wife and I want to see.  I also have a "jailbroke" firestick but don't even watch those additional channels.

I don't own a tv.....the aspect ratio on a 17 resting on my pecker is the same as a 55...

I can transition between 4 things at one time on a 400.00 laptop....

when it got to +15% commercials, I said, "have a good day you fuckbags"

I've been doing it this way for +8 yrs now....

right now, I have Fox, Moneyball, and two boards open......

There are a lot of people nowadays who don't pay for a cable box, but to flat-out not own a TV is still pretty rare.

I've got a pretty interesting setup myself. The display devices are two old CRT TVs (which can be picked up at Goodwill for under $10) and a nice, hi-res computer monitor. The input devices are a single cable box, a Roku (Internet TV appliance for Netflix, YouTube, etc.), and a DVD player.

By virtue of a clever system of wires hidden behind the furniture of my apartment, I can route any of the inputs to any of the outputs and watch anything in any room. I can even watch a single cable channel on all three displays at once, because the single cable box has so many different outputs (coax, HDMI, and RCA jacks). The intent of the cable company is to support hooking the box up to a wide variety of displays, but because all three outputs are live at once, I am able to avoid paying for additional cable boxes.

I'm not a big fan of wireless technology. What people call "wireless" is in fact just a combination of a flaky old technology (radio) with a flaky new technology (software). I only use these technologies when it's absolutely necessary.

Re: When is TV not really TV?

I am a fan of wireless. I have that $50 Bluetooth speaker Stink has in my garage when I am working the cars or fiddling with lawn equipment. Thing is like 6 years old and still sounds good. Now we do own TVs....more than I want to admit and all are set with a wireless chromecast or an Apple TV. Still saving significant cash each month compared to what I spent on Directv all those years.

if I had somebody else in the house other than dog, it would easily be different....

my basic point was living alone allows a simpler setup....

andre is right.....my ds/us is 177/12 when hooked up to an ethernet connection....wireless it usually runs around 140/9....

regardless, you can't beat the bluetooth speaker set up.....

That's good Internet.

I do have a long Ethernet cable I'll use in various spots. I get 100mbps with the cable vs. about 50mbps on WiFi, if memory serves.

I got sick of paying for comshite's pos modem.....just bought a 200.00 motorola.....it's badass....

and yeah, you'll lose signal vs. the length of the drop to the house, how the signal is split, and how long the ethernet cable is....

I don't have a splitter and my drop from the tap is only 50 ft to the modem.....

don't need a box or a tv.....just the modem and the laptop.....it's too easy....

Re: When is TV not really TV?

I may have to adjust to retirement plans from AT&T but I have DTV, VoIP phone and Gigapower. No complaints on speeds. I willl drop the phone as I used it for work. Mobile works fine. Two older TVs but we tend to watch on iPads at night. No issues other than a storm does knock the dish out for short times.
