Re: Hopson on USM, Aggies, and football's great traditions

During Hopson’s sit-down, the third-year USM coach talked about the school’s “Nasty Bunch” tradition and the quarterback competition that continues into the fall.

“We've got four guys that I think are extremely talented,” Hopson said. “They're only going to make each other better. We're going to put the football down in August and let them compete. We'll let that position sort itself out. One thing I do feel good about is the depth at the quarterback position. So, that's always a positive.

There's only two great football traditions that teams that have a name: Southern Miss is the “Nasty Bunch,” Texas A&M is the wrecking crew. And those are traditions that have lasted for 50 years. It's not like it's a new wave, we're making up a tradition as we come in. That's a tradition that I came into as an assistant and as a head coach. Every football player that puts that black and gold on has to understand, when you sign at Southern Miss, you're signing up to be a part of the “Nasty Bunch” and that's just our tradition and that's who we are."

Don't forget diversity and new ping pong tables.

"I don't think being in the 6th best conference is too bad."
"Look for Crickets Robertson to be one of the first 64 players chosen in the draft."
"Went to Starkville and came within one bad throw of taking the series."

We all know the real story of the Nasty Bunch but at least HoppyBoy tells a believable story and apparently sells it to kids.  He is a very convincing guy even if he's not all jacked up on red bull.
