One Less CUSA Bowl Game

I think we are still tied into this one.....ESPN reduced the city investment to host the bowl from 800K to 300K as a last ditch effort to save it but they don’t have the city council votes to pass it. This upcoming bowl will be the last HOD game.

Re: One Less CUSA Bowl Game

Saw someone post something on Facebook about the Tulsa AD, football coach and basketball coach all taking pay cuts to help stay within budget. I think Tulsa averages just under 20K a game since joining the mighty AAC. People aren’t going to crappy bowl games.....they aren’t going to P6 home games......yet somehow budgets and spending keep going up.

this is why the flagship schools are going to break away once the current TV contracts expire.....it's just a gimme business move....

then we all geographically realign, come up with some new bs classification, and go on our merry way.....

cue beers to call me a dumbarse and BDR for his SUNWACUSA funny o' day....

the one thing that's still in the back of my brain, is does this see the courts when it finally goes down?

there are a number of schools that have invested a shiteload of USD looking to the future.......it easily isn't us....we lost that op to increase revenue/reinvest long ago....

the next few years are going to be more fun in this arena than the actual games.....

I posted this scenario back in '11 once realignment began......

Re: One Less CUSA Bowl Game

This from the Commercial Appeal in Memphis.....”last year, when the Tigers averaged 36,302 fans per game, Memphis sold a record 22,500 season tickets. Its average attendance (36,302) ranked fifth among Group of Five schools, behind only BYU (56,267), San Diego State (39,347), UCF (36,846) and ECU (36,727).

But Memphis’ most recent financial filings with the NCAA, from Norvell’s first season in 2016, showed that the school suffered a $1.1 million drop in revenue associated with ticket sales.”

Memphis just bumped their coach to $2.6 million per season...at MEMPHIS! They are so cash poor in Tiger Town with trying to keep up with the P5 they elected to eliminate the deputy/assoc AD position this year to save cash....

If they have an average season this year and Tennessee starts playing well again attendance is going to collapse on them like a house of cards.......

The same GLEs who are missing the glory days of 1.0 will soon be longing for the good old days of battling Denton CC and Mexico  - San Antonio.
