ULM

This was looking like a close game, but they scraped by SLU in week 1.

Re: ULM

We'll be fine in week two. Closer than people are expecting, but we should come out on top.

Re: ULM

Per Bleacher Report today........

UL Monroe (1-0) at Southern Miss (1-0), 7 p.m. ET

Southern Miss played a far better opener than anticipated, and steamrolled Jackson State 55-7. That offensive explosion is an encouraging sign before facing UL Monroe, a talented scoring but troubled defensive team.

Prediction: Southern Miss 38, UL Monroe 31

That strikes me as an odd thing to say. What were they expecting, against a SWAC team coming off of a 3-win season?

Re: ULM

55 points with a qb that has never thrown a D1 pass and losing Ito and Korey probably had us scoring around 20-30 points is my guess........

Re: ULM

We'd better damn well limit these clowns to 17 and hang 48 on them with the 1st team if Hop is wise.  We need every inkling of a vote if he plans on achieving goals.

Yup, my attitude is "if not now, when?" A trip to the G5 BCS bowl needs to be the goal. I'm done with Little Seizures Valium Bowls and "title hopes."

Re: ULM

I'm afraid the goal is to host the conference game...not win it, just host it.

My goals are for crashing the damn NY6 party and winning the game.  We were teased so badly back in "Big Cock Larry's" day before the fat lady sang in B'ham that night.

For whatever reason I just never bought into that 2011 team. I'd kind of sworn off USM sports back then. Not sure if I didn't get ESPN or what, but I remember using Gametracker for the bowl game. I got back on the bandwagon for 2012 and went to a couple of games. I did post on CSNBBS in those days, I remember that.

It would be nice, if just once, USM football could put together an entire season of quality play. You can pick games from 1981, 1989, 1990, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2011 and paint a picture of a team that could be a national champion. But you can also combine games from those years and paint a picture of absolute mediocrity.

Re: ULM

Larry had that team running on Red Bull, hype, no discipline, and adrenaline.  If he could truly coach 100% of the time, he would have gone undefeated and smacked the hell out of someone in the Sugar Bowl.  Go back and look at the talent on that roster...while not deep, there were some playmakers there.

With that said, I believe at the end of this year, we will find that we have some talent right now as well.  I'm hopeful we have a staff that will utilize it but not being able to run on JSU in the first half concerns the hell out of me.  We'll see what our DBs are made of this week too but I have faith in their abilities.

There was a guy named Jamal Woodyard on that team who had some pretty eye-popping stats. He blew his knee out badly late in the season, if memory serves, and then ran afoul of the law and pretty much disappeared. I guess that after Fedora left he was in a bad spot and didn't really have anyone at USM showing him the light at the end of the tunnel.

Those stories always make me sad and it seems like we've had a lot of them. I had a hard time supporting Marcus Raines when Bower signed him, and Antwain Easterling is a putz, but not everyone with a record deserves complete exile.

Re: ULM

Thanks to Al Michaels and Thursday Night Football for enlightening me on the complete connection on Doug Pederson and our game this weekend. Had no idea he played QB for ULM or that his son is a redshirt sophmore TE for the chicken hawks. I knew he was the backup for Brett in Green Bay and thats it.......nice to see our game mentioned and the USM throwback photo during the NFL opener. Sorry, Ole Miss, you can just enjoy your Belk promotion at Turtle Creek......we will take the 15 million viewers on television......
