Ed Oliver

Oliver's a Houston defensive lineman projected to near the top of the first round of the draft. He's been sitting out, seemingly to preserve his draft status. Had a spat with the head coach over wearing a jacket designated for active participants only (http://www.espn.com/college-football/st … applewhite).

This week, he played the first half but not the second... a moment ago the guy was literally crying on the sideline as Memphis put the wraps on a rout of his team. Not sure why he was out, but there was no "smoking gun" play where you could see he got injured.

I'm no scout but it seems crazy to use a high draft pick on this guy. Wouldn't surprise me if he fell out of the top 10 picks. Just doesn't seem like a team player. Played in a lesser conference. More highly touted players have got to the NFL and fizzled out.

NFL teams don't need an occasional guest performer, they need stars.

Re: Ed Oliver

Buyer beware for sure. He already dropped from 7 to 10 on Kipers board because of how he is “managing” his injury. He then gave every GM a reason to be concerned on how he acted last week when his coach told him to take off his coat on the sideline.

Dude was seriously blubbering like a baby out there today. I'd love to know the details. Did he pull himself out at the half? Seems like he must have. Did he try to get back in when the team fell apart without him, and get told to eff off? He still had pads on.

In any case, apparently his display of emotion was convincing to some. Check out https://www.12up.com/posts/6230206-vide … st-memphis.

"Regardless of what the reasoning is, one thing is clear: Ed Oliver did not quit on his Houston Cougars team. The big man came back from injury to fight for his team in a tough matchup against the Tigers, and showed through his emotions that he clearly cares."
