AAC Bowl Record

AAC Bowl record is overall atrocious. Not only the record but overall scores.

Is this an indication of exactly how weak this conferences has become? Granted UCF is showing out but the rest haven’t produced.  On the flip side CUSA has done well in bowls. Is this due to weaker bowl competition or overall conference mates stronger than given credit??

What is the take away

Re: AAC Bowl Record

UCF won in a very weak conference. What is their biggest win this season? Pitt? The team that actually lost to UNC? I am willing to bet that LSU sends them and all of the Group of 5 a message against them. I would bet LSU wins by 3 scores. When that happens, it will be the, "but we didn't have our QB" excuse. UCF beating Auburn last year was nothing more than a defeated SEC team that lost out of a playoff spot against a good G5 opponent. UCF is not on the same level as Boise or even TCU before they got back to a P5 conference. App St could beat UCF right now and it wouldn't surprise anyone.

Re: AAC Bowl Record

The AAC is a strong football conference. UCF, Cincy, USF, and Houston all spent time in the Top 25 this year.

The Mountain West is pretty similar in strength. Fresno State might give UCF trouble. Utah State was pretty highly ranked late in the season as well.

If you look at those teams, the merger that was proposed between the MWC and old C-USA really did make sense. It would have been a way to stomp down on the other three G5 conferences and make a strong case for a bigger slice of the pie.

Oh, but this way we've got our precious automatic bid to the basketball tournament for some former Sun Belt team to use every year! Thank goodness for that!

Perception I agree, apparently those rankings teams also buy into the perception. What about results on the field?

Can a conference be considered strong if skull drug year after year during bowl season?  Again, UCF being the exception

The underlying question, does AAC simply market its programs much better than other G5’ers or is the product really better

Re: AAC Bowl Record

CUSA record since 2015 in bowls is 15 - 12 or close to that.
Guessing that total attendance for those 27 bowls will be less than the two playoff games tomorrow.

Houston looking at making a coaching change and poaching a P5 coach. Apparently he is friends with Houston’s biggest donor and still lives in Houston during the off-season.

Re: AAC Bowl Record

Applewhite came off as a bit of a flake in the whole Ed Oliver saga, but I'm not sure Holgorsen (can anyone spell that man's name right?) is a big upgrade. WVU really ought to be better than it is at football these last few years.

Is it completely unprecedented, though? I think it would be very similar to Tuberville leaving Texas Tech for Cincinnati. P5 coach starting to wear out his welcome escapes to an upper-tier G5 school.

(Which isn't to say the AAC won't spin the ever-loving shit out of it if it happens.)

Tub was one foot out the door. Not so much for WV

UCF definitely wants this one and it looks like they've got the talent to win it. The ACC would add them if they weren't too high on their own flatulence.

Re: AAC Bowl Record

What a dumbass that LSU player is, punching an opponent on a play where his team stole the ball. Did he really break his hand? Wow! I don't think UCF even admits people that dumb!

I think that emotional balloon is deflating on UCF.

Re: AAC Bowl Record

This game might end up being 5 on 5 with all of these ejections. Never seen anything like this. Crazy....

They ended up 2-5 this year. CUSA was 4-2, which will likely tie the SEC's 8-4 2018-19 postseason record.

It's pretty irrelevant, though, The AAC has earned the G5 "access bowl" bid 4 of the 6 years it's existed, and has won 3 of those games.

Done deal. He had to wait until today since his buyout at WVU dropped by 2 million after January 1. Presser scheduled tomorrow.
