New basketball coach

Patty Mac from Slum H has a list:

Weatherspoon, fellow assistant Steve Shields, Jay Ladner, Greg Heiar (former USM assistant now at LSU), Andy Kennedy, Ross Hodge (UNT assistant), and Marvin Menzies (HC at NMSU and more recently at UNLV).

Bring back Reed V. "Pie" TurkPalmer Eustachy.

No way. He doesn’t know what Jeremy is really thinking.

Re: New basketball coach

The only coach we should be talking to is Billy Kennedy. You won't find a better winning coach with a tourney resume.....he even has lifelong ties to our recruiting area. Don't call Ladner or any other "Southern Miss" guy.....it would be a waste of a great opportunity......which is typical for USM......

Bobby Lutz.  Ha.

We used to call him Howdy Hitler at the CUSA tourney for years.

Looks like Hitler and Howdy Doody had a child.

His wife found that very amusing.

Re: New basketball coach

If the NIT is our goal then AK is our man. BK took TAM to the Sweet 16 twice over the past 4 seasons. He made the NCAA with Murray St before that, winning 32 games his final season there. He’s from New Orleans, took SE LA to their first NCAA as well. Hard to beat his experience for someone that knows the area, is available and is getting paid by Texas AM for the next two seasons.

Not really understanding all the topper support for JL.

If AK was 47 years old, well, you'd have to hire him.

Its honestly one of the biggest problems with our lack of success. I will give our new AD a pass because he earned it at Troy with the success they have experienced under his watch but we tend to go safe which rarely translates into success in todays competitive landscape.....meaning that even a Bower wouldn't be as successful in todays environment.

You have Debbie Bower campaigning on FB for Ladner. You have the 87 NIT team writing a letter for supporting him as the next hire. I don't see Jeremy hiring him if he is able to get proven coaches that are available from bigger programs to answer the phone. He wants immediate success and you don't get that by hiring a .500 coach from Hammond......

He's certainly not very diverse.

After many years of this shit, I think I get it. There are a large number of fans and employees of USM athletics whose goal isn't so much for this endeavor to succeed, it's for it to remain a comfortable and familiar place for them personally. These are the people who jump for joy when some hick gets the team into the NIT, but can't be bothered to support a guy like Larry Eustachy. They get downright angry at the first sign of any real ambition.

Take the AAC for example. These folks never wanted in because then someone might photograph one of them next to a UConn or Temple fan / employee, and we'd look like the bumpkins in the room. Better to keep getting photographed next to the other hayseeds from Ruston and Birmingham than to get all uppity. Then they lie to themselves and say that the mean old P5 is keeping USM down.

Some of these people even long for the inclusion of yokels from backwaters that are more distant still than Ruston. Get some Lafayette and Monroe folks in the picture and they'll really be BMOC.

Frickin' nauseates me. It's a philosophy of unacknowledged self-disdain.
