I'd love to believe that our pres. and AD have long been lobbying the AAC for the next opening.

It’s been stated on the twitter sphere by a few “sports writers” that CUSA will go after UCONN. Also being stated that UAB is the favorite to take the open AAC spot by those same writers.

Re: Well hello, Southern Miss......

I’m no expert except in own mind. Think AAC has known this for several weeks possibly months. BYU and service academies are preferred choice. Past that doubt there is a favorite. Reason Southern Miss needs a full blitz to pursue.

UAB  - very could be. Consider though, they’ve only be back from the death penalty two years. If you’re a commissioner or university president does this not concern you?  Would believe so

Re: Well hello, Southern Miss......

What's the appeal of the service academies? Is it purely geography?

Maybe some of the AAC members are planning to redo their visitor locker rooms and want a free tear-down?

Re: Well hello, Southern Miss......

Paddy Mageek posted his thoughts on who goes where. I would add a link but I can't stand Paddy so I won't. His focus was more on the AAC bringing on a football only school and then adding another basketball only program like they did with Wichita St and Navy..... So whoever might go under Paddys scenario they will need to find another home for all other sports. He mentioned UNT as a possibility but due to lazy journalism he didn't even mention the fact that the AAC is moving their HQ about 20 miles down the road from the UNT campus next year. He thinks UNT is in a better position to go to the MWC as well and that is getting some traction....I am not connected to UNT in any way shape or form but I also live down the road from their campus and have never once heard about them going to the MWC.

Either way outside of USM being connected to some of the former AAC schools once upon a time in conference we are literally not getting any traction from the national media writers. ODU, UAB and Marshall are getting far more coverage for a potential move and like the CBS article posted above by FWB, we are not even mentioned by accident in the entire article.

I really hope they rob someone like Air Force or Boise St so more dominos fall out of CUSA. I really want Judy to water this damn thing down even more by bringing on both a Texas St and Liberty just so we can fall even further into obscurity.........

Re: Well hello, Southern Miss......

If’n CUSA has a member move up it should not add anyone. Work this POS conference down to 10

Patty is lazy as are most journalists. Just battling for clicks, garbage in garbage out.

If’n Southern Miss gets skipped ** Again ** we’re officially f’ed.

Well, Patty is ALL we have, period.

IF Bennett and McClain are worth their weight, they were in touch before the news hit and are making their pitches. AthleticDirector@usm.edu

I don't think they want in. I think CUSA suits them just fine.

You have about 40 or 50 academic institutions in the country that actually aspire to do well at sports. The rest are just checking off a box. They'll check off the "football" box if they can. If not, they'll check off the "D-I basketball box." If they can't even get that far, they'll check the "we have sports here" box.

When did USM leave the group of schools that actually give a shit? I'd say it was somewhere around 2000.

Re: Well hello, Southern Miss......

Two thoughts...

1. Troy and Delta St. both did really well under McClain. I'd like to think he's already on it. It'll be his chance to shine when others didn't do shit.

2. I wonder if there is a Gilbert factor. He has inside info on our program. That COULD be beneficial if he was on our side getting in. He could possibly lobby for what we might accomplish with a little money coming in.

Not getting my hopes up at all on this.. Just random thoughts.

I would not put a single egg in the Dilbert helps us basket......He made Bennett look like a fool and I highly doubt that exit interview was cordial. This entire Bennett quote on the Dilbert hire could not have been more off......
