Belk Bowl

Per Brett McMurphy.

Think that's around a $4 mil bowl.

Re: Belk Bowl

I might go to that one. The larger payout would be a nice little bonus for the "conference."

How would it happen, though? SEC can't fill all its bowls?

Re: Belk Bowl

Nonstops out of Jackson and Gulfport. Have to be short of SEC teams and doing some serious scrounging. If it pans this may be a better bowl than the other "conference" teams. They'd kick our asses, but "that's football".

Re: Belk Bowl

ESPN projects us in First Responder vs. Kent State or Armed Forces vs. San Diego State.

247Sports projects us in the Belk vs. Va Tech.

CFN projects us in New Mexico vs. Nevada.

Re: Belk Bowl

Listened to the Eagle Hour on Monday. Kelly Sanner didn't hold back. A few points from their recap.....

Uninspiring, frustrating
Why would you buy a bowl ticket to see this team?
Can't and shouldn't count Alcorn as a win when measuring the season
What does a team that finished 3rd in their CUSA division bring to the table?
How many games would this team win in the AAC? Maybe Tulsa.....
Difference between this team and a Bower team? A Bower team wouldn't be celebrating and happy on the sidelines down 3 scores
Culture of this program is soft
Lack of leadership
Team has a few throwback players on it but most are "todays" athlete

Then Lee Roberts spoke...

You can't let one season or one game get you down?
We were winning against La Tech just couldnt finish
We beat a good UAB team......
We are thin at WR and RB

Per Lee Jaylond is still on this team dealing with a knee injury......BS

My favorite aspect of that show is how they always refer back to the Bower or previous years. You’d have to hold everyone but Luke at gunpoint to give credit to the Fedora years. A new fan listening to that show would never know Southern Miss had a football program in 2011.

Correct ... the only difference.  everything else is the same

But what about the well-being of these student athletes?

Re: Belk Bowl

Bower's teams had a lot of talent. So did Hallman's. When I reminisce about those teams, I'm reminiscing mostly about the players, not about the coaches. And I think that's 100% appropriate, but also kind of rare.
