Re: Mcclain interview

All you need to know about his comments as it relates to coaches and budgets....

"So I think as an AD, you just have to remember where that responsibility lies. And I think we all want great relationships with our coaches. I do. I mean, I don’t, I don’t get fulfillment out of this job if I don’t have quality relationships with our coaches and our staff, our student athletes. But at the end of the day, our responsibility is to make sure we’re doing what’s right by the university and our, and our students. And sometimes that leads you down a path that, you know, results in a very difficult conversation. You just have to kind of remember where that, where that center is and what your responsibility is.

My philosophy has always been this, you know, you can’t, you can’t cut yourself to success. Like, you can’t, you can’t reduce your budget, you can’t make cuts and, and expect to put yourself on the path to success. 80% of my focus is always going to be on the revenue side and how we, how we improve that situation to help us be successful."

Re: Mcclain interview

That shit about revenue is probably the best thing I've heard from USM athletics since 2011.

Could be BS, but it's the right thing to say.

He will either back it up or not with his Hop decision. The fans have spoken by not showing up. It’s his move now.....

I believe he gets it. At what point is it acceptable by the toppers and the university to stop spending money on a poor product? Some of those toppers and school administrators believe you should never stop supporting the team or the university regardless of performance or product. Good for them but that’s not how this works in the real world. Throwing good money at a below average product after multiple years with zero progress doesn’t solve the problem. Our money is the only real voice we have and if Lee Roberts or Dustin Almond or the Bowers or the Hopsons have a problem with it too bad. We built this school through our tuition and donations and we aren’t going to let your blind pride tell us how to accept this crap just because it’s labeled Southern Miss crap......

I will bet you a case that Hop is gone before the end of this month. Zero chance he is returning because Jeremy has zero chance of selling this product next season. The JSU game won’t be enough to carry the fall revenue budget for the water and electricity bill at the Pebble....

And let’s not forget how many players are jumping ship right now. Hell Hop might just leave on his own at this point. I’m sure his relationship with Lamont is still sour....

Ace...

He has a popular "I want your job" Podcast.

He looks like the dude in the last Jason Bourne movie who had info on Operation Blackbriar.......

next year is easily the earliest at this point...what does another year bring in relative to revenue/wins/recruiting increases at this point???  might as well wait and watch how the next version of d1 splitting into two versions and how the residual geo-realignment plays out...

what about ol' jaybird on the hoops side of the equation???  he's proving to be an E12L repeat....

regardless, I pull the trigger on both next year going into negotiations....

Re: Mcclain interview

Tulane beat down should be interesting.  Maybe will not happen but we’re all expecting it.  Regardless, 2020 attendance will be disappointing. Time for a change and NOT one of us who wants to be around forever

The all-time lowest attendance for this bowl game is 27,902, so at least one record is well within reach.

I'd set it at 27k and still take the under...

If we lay an embarrassing egg on Saturday, yes. And by embarrassing I mean by 17+ points.

Coming out as the AD and telling us that he will have to improve in 2020 as if he is publicly putting Jay on notice to appease the fan base isn’t going to do anything for selling seats in the fall. Hop won’t fire any coordinators and I suspect more players will leave before the month is over.

Defending that Texas 2A title would get a little more difficult.
