Chase Fourcade recruitment

He's doing pretty well in his second season starting at QB for Nicholls State. He's averaging over 10 yards per throw, and he has 6 TD passes against just 3 interceptions. He can run, too. He had 9 rushing TDs last year, and has 1 already this year.

My question is, how did he end up at Nicholls? He had offers from most of the FCS schools in Louisiana, plus Maryland and Arkansas State. He turned down these offers to play at Nicholls, citing a desire to stay close to home (Metairie). To me, this indicates that an offer from USM, or Tulane, or maybe even South Alabama (a team he took to OT last year), might have been accepted.

Chase's biggest weakness is his size (6', 180 lbs). Other than that, I don't see how he's not playing somewhere in FBS. How does a kid with an offer from Maryland end up at Nicholls State? Can't help but think we (among others) overlooked this player.

Figured as much, but a lot of guys listed as 6' are very good QBs. Lee Roberts looked about 5'10" to me when I saw him around campus. Drew Brees is the same way.

Besides, he's young. People aren't always done growing at 18. 6' / 180lbs is what they listed him at as a high school senior. Nicholls lists him as 6' / 190lbs.

If I were him, I'd have taken the Maryland offer, if only for the quality of the education. Of all the things I judge schools on, proximity to Metairie, LA isn't very high on the list.
