Song of the day

Kind of a Georgia thing, but maybe it'll be appreciated two states West:

Re: Song of the day

Still blows my mind that this one made it onto an album that actually sold more than a few copies:

"Fuck you" is the best message of all.

They're kind of an Athens / Atlanta phenomenon that never really took off in the rest of the world, I'm told.

Athens seems to have a really great music scene. I'm sure it's a fun place to go to college, but I could never attend a school that thinks this horrifying abomination is OK:

The story I always get told when I bitch about mascots, loud music on the PA, and other gameday gimmicks is "the kids like it." Dude, if your kids are into anthropomorphic bulldogs with ridiculously oversized foam rubber heads, you might want to consult a psychologist.

While folks remember Straight to Hell from the Mystery Road tour, Drivin' n' Cryin' actually got some college station airplay from their first album "Scarred But Smarter", which holds up, IMO.

And they actually had a moment of mainstream success nationwide with "Fly Me Courageous" off the 3rd album. Which I thought was garbage.

Kevin Kinney went on to write some good songs and was able to eke out a living in the business playing clubs and opening for headliners.

My friend had two parents on staff at UGA. Several times over summer break we would ride up to Athens from Atlanta, walk the tracks and hit Wuxtry Records downtown. Listened to REM Murmur before they left IRS for Warner Bros and became big. Eventually listened to Drivin' n' Cryin' and once Album 88 (GA State) started to give them decent airplay they became a little more mainstream. They did the same for local band Collective Soul, who ended up getting more pop play once Fly Me Courageous and Drivin' n' Cryin' faded.
