Re: 307 mass murders so far this year

As sad as this all is, you can't legislate insanity.    Also, the Navy admits to screwing up this guys background issues.   Otherwise he'd have failed a background check.   We have plenty of gun laws on the books now, most are either not enforced or when someone is convicted the judge gives a light sentence.  Happens all the time.

But yeah, no gun walked into a room and killed anyone.  A crazy person did that and like I said, you can't legislate "crazy."   It can happen anywhere at any time and as long as the media continues to sensationalize these crimes there will always be copycats.

And for the record, gun crimes in the United States have been on a downward trend for years.   Something the media (for some reason) NEVER discusses.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

well, we now have a well regulated Militia, it's called the Army and local police. back then the citizens were the militia, and that's why the amendment was worded that way,  but somehow the gun lobby has skewed this fact to make Americans think guns are for everyone. well, their not. It's time to stricken the 2nd amendment from our constitution.

Uh???   You are so wrong.   The entire premise of this amendment is so the people can stand up to a government when necessary.      "the right of the People to keep and bear arms"       PERIOD.   Nobody called for automobile restrictions when a guy plowed into a crowd just a week or so ago.  So fn ridiculous.   How many guns did the Terrorists use on 9/11?  Drop mic

Why would the Navy admit to screwing up this guys background issues when he was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force ???

Because you're a fucktard.   Air Force, Army....which armed forces is irrelevant.  The fact it happened is.

The AF needs to go back and investigate what happened there.  NICS relies heavily upon agencies providing them with relevant information as this situation clearly demonstrates. If it is proven someone was derelict in their duty, they should have the book thrown at them.  And on up the command as well.  It is pretty pertinent information when a guy has domestic violence issues and a possible Dishonorable Discharge.  Either of those issues would result in a DENY by NICS.

well no. it's not PERIOD. you conveniently left off the first part about arms being for the militia, like almost everyone in America loves to do to further the agenda of selling firearms to citizens.  everyone loves to take the 2nd amendment out of context by leaving off the first 13 words. Now pick up your mic and try again.

and now here come the lawsuits, except I don't think you can sue the government or any branch of it.

This isn't a comment about gun control, it's a comment about grammar: the way the 2nd Amendment is written renders the first part about a "well-regulated militia" completely without legal significance.

Consider what sort of a statement it is; if I were to say, for example, "Elvis being alive and well in Arkansas, I bought plane tickets to Little Rock," the fact that Elvis is actually dead doesn't change the fact that I bought the tickets. Both that statement and the 2nd Amendment consist of an arguably flawed rationale inserted before an absolute statement of objective fact. The rationale should be discarded in considering the real implications of the statement. "Oh, they were wrong about that" doesn't retroactively go back and void a law, much less a constitution.

I'm not looking at that end of it, I'm looking at it from a "let's make sure the military (since they are part of the federal government as is the FBI) does their fucking job".  This system has been in place too long for some shit like this to have occurred.  Is it because an asshole didn't enter the info into a computer or what???  Seems like if you are military and you are found guilty of domestic violence, the computer ought to automatically notify the FBI. Same with Dishonorable.

Lawsuits, not my area of expertise. Can't help you there.

Getting a dishonorable discharge does bar you from possessing a firearm in the USA, and I think that's pretty reliably enforced. This boy didn't get that exact discharge, though; he got a bad conduct discharge, AKA the "Big Chicken Dinner" or BCD.

It's still damned hard to fuck up that bad; there are at least 3 or 4 levels between the BCD and a true honorable discharge, more if you look at things like eligibility-to-rejoin codes.

All that said, the domestic violence charge should have kept him from buying a gun.

you're most likely correct. some dumbass private which was entrusted with entering some simple shit from a piece of paper into a computer either forgot or entered the info into the wrong place or the piece of paper was lost.

Yes, even a misdemeanor charge of domestic violence strictly prohibits a person from purchasing a firearm within the US.  If any of you have not read or filled out a form 4473 [you know, the instant background check the libs in Congress keep saying does not exist] it's a recipe for felony perjury... see:
