Next realignment will be a contraction.  ESPN can't continue to pay the SEC billions, so the top 40 or so will form a new league and leave the rest behind.  They'll leave their non-revenue sports in their conferences to avoid litigation from schools left out but there will be a lot more have-nots than haves in the future.

I don't know how you get to 40 with each of the big conferences looking out for their own members. Who gets kicked to the curb?

No one.  P5 will be the new elite class 1.   The rest of us class 2.   Im okay with that, just needs to happen soon.
